Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Eesi was formed more than 30 years ago as an independent not-for-profit organization by a bipartisan group of members of congress, including founder and board member, former representative richard ottinger (d-ny), who identified a need for policymakers to have greater access to fact-based information on energy and environmental issues, and created eesi to fill it. Today, eesi continues to be a trusted source of non-partisan information and innovative, common-sense approaches to energy, climate, transportation, and related policies. As part of its work, eesi conducts congressional briefings, produces fact sheets, and publishes free weekly newsletters ("climate change news and "sustainable bioenergy, farms, and forest"). All of these resources are available via e-mail and on our website, www.eesi.org.

MAKING OUR PASSENGER AND FREIGHT VEHICLES CLEANER IS MORE URGENT THAN EVER. IN 2018, EESI RESISTED THE ADMINISTRATION'S ATTEMPTS TO CUT FUNDING FOR MASS TRANSIT IN CITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING DALLAS, JACKSONVILLE, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK, AND MINNEAPOLIS. AS PART OF THIS OUTREACH EFFORT, THE HILL, A WIDELY READ PUBLICATION ON CAPITOL HILL, PUBLISHED AN EESI OP-ED, "ADMINISTRATION THWARTING CONGRESS BY WITHHOLDING TRANSIT FUNDS." A ROBUST PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM IS ESSENTIAL TO ACHIEVING AN ENERGY-EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM.EESI ALSO EXAMINED THE PROMISE OF BATTERY ELECTRIC BUSES, AND SUCCESSFULLY INSPIRED CONGRESSIONAL POLICYMAKERS IN THE PROCESS.
