Activity 2

The primary immunodeficiency community turns to idf for individualized assistance with insurance questions, physician location, treatment information, and other resources, and idf's patient advocacy services directly helped more than 2,200 patients and family members. Thousands more were reached nationally by idf promoting health care policy that positively affects the primary immunodeficiency community. Idf's advocacy education programs include federal and state healthcare legislation, insurance issues, scid newborn screening, and idf continues to develop its strong volunteer grassroots advocacy network to educate policymakers about issues important to our community.

Activity 3

Idf conducts national surveys of patients, physicians, and hospital pharmacists, which outline patient characteristics, health status, and treatment patterns, and the prevalence of these diseases. These surveys have provided quantifiable data that has been extremely valuable in benefitting diagnosis and treatment. The idf scholar helps analyze the large amounts of patient data collected from our surveys, to publish articles for peer-reviewed journals to inform the medical community. Idf fosters opportunities for continuing education programs so healthcare professionals may improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Idf medical outreach programs include 10 lebien visiting professor programs, which reached 1,290 medical professionals, and the consulting immunologist program, which reached 94. Idf sponsors the idf center of excellence at duke university, with the mission to provide state of the art healthcare services to patients with primary immunodeficiencies. Exhibits were held at 5 medical conferences, reaching 2,450 medical professionals.
