IRS990/Desc0THE MDA ORGANIZATION IS ENGAGED IN PROVIDING NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION AND MEDIA COMMUNICATION PROGRAMS AS WELL AS, MARKETING PROMOTIONAL PROGRAMS FOR THE DAIRY INDUSTRY AS MANDATED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. MDA PROVIDES NUMEROUS PROGRAM SERVICES ESPECIALLY WITHIN SCHOOLS, SOME OF WHICH INCLUDE: THE NEW LOOK OF SCHOOL MILK- NLSM PROGRAM IS A DRIVING FORCE OF OUR SCHOOL FOODSERVICE INITIATIVES AND CONTINUES TO GROW IN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION. IN 2014, 27 SCHOOL DISTRICTS REPRESENTING 439 SCHOOLS AND 154,400 STUDENTS, SERVED MILK IN 8-OUNCE, SINGLE-SERVE PLASTIC CONTAINERS. SEVERAL MILK PROCESSORS IN OUR REGION PROVIDE 8-OUNCE PLASTIC BOTTLES TO THOSE SCHOOLS WHO CONVERT FROM PAPERBOARD NON-RECYCLABLE CARTONS. THESE EFFORTS HELP GIVE STUDENTS NUTRITION VIA MILK THE WAY THEY WANT - IN VARIOUS LOT-FAT FLAVORS AND SERVED COLD IN CONTEMPORARY, EASY-TO-OPEN PACKAGING. GREEN POINTS PROGRAM - AS PART OF THE NEW LOOK OF SCHOOL MILK INITIATIVE, WE WORKED TO GIVE SCHOOLS MORE OPTIONS IN RECYCLING THEIR PLASTIC BOTTLES. WE WORKED WITH SCHOOLS BY OFFERING A 'GREEN POINTS' FUNDING REWARDS PROGRAM, WHERE SCHOOLS EARNED POINTS FOR RECYCLING AND THEN REDEEM THOSE POINTS FOR ITEMS SUCH AS PARK BENCHES, EXTERIOR TRASH UNITS, LUNCH TABLES AND WALL ART, ALL MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS. ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS WERE ADDED IN 2014 TO THIS PROGRAM, WITH THE PROGRAM ENDING IN 2014. OVER 325 SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED AND OVER 388,831 STUDENTS.DAIRY VENDING - WE HAVE PROVIDED GRANT FUNDING TO SCHOOLS INTERESTED IN PROMOTING MILK, CHEESE AND YOGURT THROUGH DAIRY VENDING. PLACED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL BUILDING, VENDING MACHINES PROVIDE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO PURCHASE DAIRY. IN MOST CASES, THE DAIRY VENDING MACHINES ARE AVAILABLE DURING NON-SCHOOL HOURS AND ON WEEKENDS, EXTENDING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR DAIRY PURCHASES. SINCE PROGRAM INCEPTION, WE HAVE FUNDED PLACEMENT OF 176 VENDING MACHINES IN OVER 48 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN MID-ATLANTIC REGION SCHOOLS. FOR 2014, 24 ADDITIONAL VENDING MACHINES WERE PLACED. MILK REWARDS PROGRAM- THROUGH A UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP WITH VENDORS, SCHOOLS CAN EARN "POINTS" FOR EVERY 8OZ BOTTLE OF MILK SOLD IN THEIR PROGRAMS. CREATED BY MDA THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES FUNDING FOR "POINTS" GENERATED THROUGH THE USE OF DAIRY PRODUCTS OFFERING AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADD DAIRY MENU ITEMS TO SCHOOL'S CURRENT MEAL PROGRAMS, ENHANCING DAIRY IN BOTH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH. IN 2014, 36 SCHOOL DISTRICTS, 1,143 SCHOOLS, CURRENTLY PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM WHICH BENEFITS OVER 665,420 STUDENTS. SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAMS- MDA HAS PLACED GREAT EMPHASIS ON OUR "EXPANDING BREAKFAST" PROGRAM IN THE SCHOOLS. MID-ATLANTIC DAIRY ASSOCIATION'S BREAKFAST PROGRAMS ARE NOW IN MORE THAN 811 SCHOOLS. A TYPICAL BREAKFAST INCLUDES MILK, FRUIT, PROTEIN AND/OR CEREAL OR BREAD. THE PROGRAMS RANGE FROM "BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM" WHERE IN 2014, 661 BREAKFAST BAGS AND COOLERS WERE PLACED IN THE CLASSROOM WITHIN 19 DISTRICTS, 390 SCHOOLS (NOTE-EACH BREAKFAST BAG FEEDS 30 STUDENTS FOR 180 DAYS PROVIDING 5400 MEALS PER SCHOOL YEAR); TO "GRAB AND GO" BREAKFAST OPTIONS SERVED IN RECYCLABLE BAGS; TO "BREAKFAST AFTER FIRST PERIOD" ; TO "BREAKFAST IN THE HALLWAY" FOR HIGH SCHOOLS; AND ANOTHER AS "DAIRY CONNECTION" CART STATIONS WHICH ARE NEW WAYS TO DELIVER A NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST OUTSIDE OF THE TRADITIONAL CAFETERIA. A TOTAL OF 67 CARTS WERE PLACED IN 2014.FUEL UP TO PLAY60 PROGRAM - (FUTP60) IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NATIONAL DAIRY COUNCIL, NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE AND U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO EMPOWER STUDENTS TO MAKE CHANGES AT SCHOOL THAT WILL HELP THEM BE ACTIVE FOR 60 MINUTES DAILY AND FUEL UP WITH NUTRIENT-RICH FOODS INCLUDING LOW-FAT AND FAT-FREE DAIRY. THIS PROGRAM IS AN EFFORT TO ADDRESS THE PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE IN OUR COUNTRY OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY AND TO HELP IMPROVE THE NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ENVIRONMENT IN SCHOOLS. MID-ATLANTIC IS PART OF THIS INITIATIVE THROUGH THE REGIONAL WORK BEING DONE AS PART OF THE NATIONAL UNIFIED MARKETING PLAN. THE FUTP60 (FUEL
