“In 2023 launchbio produced larger than life science events in boston, durham, new haven and san diego attracting 497 attendees. Larger than life science is an in-person series that arms entrepreneurs with the knowledge, capital and connections it takes to start and grow a life science startup. These events highlight the best minds in the life sciences today. Launchbio invites all industry leaders and seasoned entrepreneurs to share their experience and expertise in drug discovery, regulatory strategy, fundraising, team building, and communications across the nation's leading life science hubs. In 2023 launchbio conducted founders circles in philadelphia and san diego with a total of 32 participants. Founders circle is a peer advisory forum for life science startup founders and c-level executives. These discussions are facilitated by industry experts and investment professionals and center on business challenges that all early-stage life science companies face. Our peer learning environment encourages experience sharing and discussion of innovative strategies for growing, scaling and funding life science startups. Launchbio continued to offer webinars attracting 238 attendees. Topics included, "the soul of science", a bioethics discussion around gene editing and crispr technology, "compensation confidential", where we shared real-time data on base salaries, actual and target bonuses, founder and non-founder equity for c-suite to staff level employees, "capital gains", a four-part series where life science startup founders gained the knowledge and skills necessary to attract venture capital funding, and " equity 101", understanding the intricacies of financial markets, valuation methodologies and cap table management. Launchbio hosted invest in cures in san diego on august 24th with 162 attendees. Invest in cures explores the rising trend of impact investing through disease foundations and innovative approaches to addressing rare disease challenges. Foundation leaders, advocates and entrepreneurs shared how a targeted venture philanthropy approach is accelerating the commercialization of life saving therapies. This forum examined the foundation venture funds and their investment philosophies, highlighted successful collaborations with start-ups as well as disease advocacy groups and offered matchmaking opportunities for venture funds and start-ups that align with their investment profile. In 2023 launchbio created "investor connect" a new virtual meeting platform for entrepreneurs to meet investors. In this monthly, invitation-only series, top level investors are connected with promising, early stage, life science entrepreneurs through a curated process and meet in a facilitated, online conversation. 51% of investor connect companies have further interest from investors. This series is for life science founders and c-level executives who are based in the us, raising funding (pre-seed, seed, series a, series b) and interested in expanding their investor network. Entrepreneur applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are considered each month based on the investor's portfolio interests. A total of 162 entrepreneurs were matched with investors in 2023. In 2023 launchbio launched the "nextgen vc forum". Launchbio's nextgen vc forum is the premiere event for venture capital associates to expand their skills and expertise while growing their network. Topics include: negotiating term sheets, leveraging ip diligence, and understanding board governance.the half-day forum includes a networking breakfast, three one-hour sessions and lunch. Attendance at nextgen vc forum is by invitation only. A total of 123 attendees participated at events in san francisco, boston and new york city.
