“Fy 2019 represented the third full year of program activities, and a significant geographic expansion. In addition to existing educational programs for early stage life science entrepreneurs in san diego, ca; boston, ma: and durham, nc, launchbio provided programs to startup biotech entrepreneurs in los angeles, san francisco, and new york city, with plans to expand to philadelphia in fy 2020. Topics included effective fundraising, commercialization of technology, and the basics of building a sustainable business. This program expansion was planned and funded, in part, through multi-year contributions and pledges made to launchbio in fy 2017 and 2018. In addition, the geographic expansion attracted new donors and sponsors, as well as individual contributors, to support the organization's work in fy 2019 so that revenue nearly doubled to $1,034,881. The geographic program expansion resulted in a reduction of net assets of $142,334, which is largely a timing issue due to the fiscal year in which multi-year pledges were recorded. A number of large sponsorships were scheduled to renew in january and february 2020. These commitments subsequently were secured and provided sufficient funding for the start of fy 2020. Launchbio hosted more than 50 free educational and networking programs in fy 2019 and built a growing network of life science company founders, investors, subject matter experts, community partners and financial supporters. More than 12,000 people received launchbio's weekly emails listing upcoming programs and news about biotech startups. Launchbio also invested in building its social media platforms in fy 2019 to expand its reach and impact. The organization continued its partnership with the city of san diego economic development department to build a robust support network for biotech startups and attract venture capital. Launchbio also partnered with the nyc economic development corporation and nyulangone medical center for the grand opening of the biolabs nyc coworking space. Launchbio hosted 2 of its popular "invest in cures" forums, one in research triangle park, nc, and one in new york city, bringing together biotech startups with nonprofit disease foundations looking for partners to develop new treatments and cures for cancer and rare diseases.”
