“Community spoke was created out of a partnership between the lakeshore nonprofit alliance (lna) and the ottawa county human services coordinating council (ochscc). The ochscc is an unincorporated coordinating body made up of ottawa county entities that focus primarily on health & human services (a few members of the council include the department of human services. Public health department, community mental health, sheriff's department, workforce development agency, county administration, circuit court, etc) for 20 years, the ochscc has brought these entities together on a regular basis to better coordinate delivery of governmental health & human services. The lna is an incorporated nonprofit in the state of michigan that serves roughly 100 nonprofit members in ottawa county and provides resources, training, and support to help strengthen the local nonprofit sector. The partnership between lna and ochscc was created primarily to strengthen the level of collaboration between county government and nonprofit organizations as well as to avoid duplication of efforts. The leadership of both groups determined that a new entity should be created to better represent the collaborations that were coming out of this partnership and the result was "community spoke."”
