“The Chain CollaborativeSupplemental information Schedule F12-31-2022Nicaragua - In 2022, TCC supported Biblioteca Girasol, a community library in Nicaragua, to offer scholarships to youth-leaders in the community so that they could attend high school. TCC also supported Biblioteca Girasols mental health program, whereby the librarry provides access to one-on-one counseling as well as workshops for teenagers in the community.Guatemala - In 2022, TCC funded two associations of smallholder farmers in Guatemala, ViCaf and Jovemcafe, helping them both to found nurseries to grow and sell fruit, timber, and coffee shade tree seedlings locally. Nearby access to these seedlings will allow producers to plant more trees, allowing them to improve the quality of their coffee long-term through soil enrichment (and therefore the price they can earn from their crop). The project will also contribute to reforestation in the area. Finally, TCC supported an organic fertilizer project at Vicaf as well as an egg-laying hen initiative at Jovemcaf. Each of these initiatives will generate additional income for coffee farmers.Region: Central America, amount $37,000Uganda - In 2022, TCC supported Now Africa Initiative (NAI), a social enterprise in Uganda comprising over 300 small-scale coffee farmers, to found a coffee dry mill in an effort to increase the value of their crop. With their profits, NAI plans to invest more funds into their own community programming. In addition, TCC supported NAI to lead diversification training for farmers, focused on 1) soybean production and by-product development as an alternative source of income, and 2) backyard organic gardening for improved family food security. TCC also invested in new desks and teacher training at Karama Education Center (KEC), a primary school founded by NAI for children in their community. Finally, TCC supported Girl Power Foundation Uganda, a community-based organization in Kanungu Disctrict, to lead a mental health initiative for members of the NAI and KEC community.Region: East Africa, amount - $168,750Mexico - In 2022, TCC supported a multi-faceted project led by Colectivo Rokunin in Veracruz, Mexico. First, in the realm of coffee, TCCs support allowed Colectivo Rokunin to 1) conduct soil analyses, 2) provide technical assistance training to their member coffee farmers, and 3) expand coffee processing infrastructure so that their producers could improve the quality of their crop and achieve higher prices. Second, TCC supported Colectivo Rokunin to spearhead an initiative that offered Nahuatl language classes for young people in the community, in an effort to preserve their native language and culture.Region: North America, amount $15,000Ecuador - In 2022, TCC supported Asoamazonas, an association of youth coffee farmers in Ecuador, to launch a technical assistance (agricultural training) program for a small group of farmers so they could improve their coffee yields and quality, and therefore increase their incomes. Under the program, Asoamazonas provided one-to-one assistance and training to 15 young coffee farmers, focused on best agricultural practices. TCC also supported Asoamazonas to lead a series of workshops for youth and children to promote reading, creativity, and coffee brewing skills. Colombia - In 2022, TCC supported AsoSeykn, an association of Arhuaco coffee farmers in Colombia, to hire an agronomist to complete a diagnostic of 22 coffee farms in their community. The diagnostic focused on assessing tree quantity and health, as well as soil health. This diagnostic process will allow AsoSeykn to determine what infrastructure and training they need to invest in moving forward in order to grow their collective enterprise.Region: South America, amount - $17,000”
