“Maine citizens for clean elections works to engage maine people from across the political spectrum, using research, education, and outreach to further fairness, inclusion, and opportunity in our politics. We believe in the importance of the maine clean elections act, the first system of full public financing for state candidates in the country, passed via referendum in 1996. Achievements in 2018-19 include successfully advocating for a lobbyist contribution ban, automatic voter registration, and the restoration of presidential primaries.”

“The executive director salary was paid via a common paymaster, an fy2019 unrelated organization (maine citizens for clean elections, a 501c3 organization)-- unrelated per irs regs due to separate board structures with less than 50% overlapping members. Mcce action reimbursed 100% of mcce action's portion of ed salaries, taxes,and fringe benefits to maine citizens for clean elections. The mcce action executive director salary allotment for fy2019 was 6,908 (10% of full time),with the corresponding percentage of benefits and taxes reimbursed as well. Due to this arrangement, no w2 was paid out of mcce action.”
