Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Nick cienski and sandi cienski are married: family relationship

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

The organization does not have committees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The organization did not provide a final copy of this form 990 to its board of directors before filing the form. However, the board meets on a regular basis to review the financial records from which the form 990 is prepared. The final form 990, as filed, will be e-mailed to the board upon completion, and is always available for review upon request.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The conflict of interest policy uniformly applies to all directors, officers and employees of the organization who may have a direct or indirect "financial interest". Mission 14's board of directors administers and interprets the policy and reviews it periodically for adequacy. The periodic reviews include whether compensation arrangements and benefits are reasonable and the result of arm's length bargaining; and whether any partnerships, joint ventures and related relationships conform to mission 14's written policies, are properly recorded, reflect reasonable terms, further its charitable purposes and do not result in inurement, impermissible private benefit or an excess benefit transaction. After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the individual, the board of directors determines whether a conflict of interest exists. The individual who is involved is excused from the meeting and does not participate in the deliberations. If the board determines a conflict exists, the individual is given an opportunity to explain the alleged failure to disclose. If, after hearing the response and after making further investigation as warranted by the circumstances, the board of directors determines the individual has failed to disclose an actual or possible conflict of interest, it shall take appropriate disciplinary and corrective action.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The executive director's salary is reviewed and approved by the board of directors on an annual basis. There are no conflicts of interest. Documentation of all deliberations & decisions regarding the compensation are kept by the board. No other officers are compensated and there are no key employees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents and financial records are available for public inspection upon request.

IRS990/Desc0MISSION 14'S VISION IS TO END THE WORST FORM OF MODERN DAY SLAVERY - THE TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN WITH THE FOLLOWING INITIATIVES:1)ENGAGE, OUR GOAL IS TO BRING HIGHER LEVELS OF AWARENESS ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING TO AS MANY PEOPLE AROUND THE GLOBE AS POSSIBLE AND ASKING THEM TO BECOME DIFFERENCE MAKERS IN THIS FIGHT. WE ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS TO ENGAGE BY JOINING US ON ONE OF OUR PEER-TO-PEER FUNDRAISING ADVENTURES WITH A PURPOSE, TO ADOPT-A-COP BY SENDING A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER TO ATTEND AN ANTI-TRAFFICKING TRAINING SEMINAR, AND TO CHANGE A LIFE BY SPONSORING A NICARAGUAN YOUNG ADULT TO ATTEND OUR 90 DAY GRADUATE SEWING TRAINING CLASS.2)EDUCATE, MISSION 14, TOGETHER WITH OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS HAS BUILT AN EASY-TO-USE SEARCHABLE RESOURCE PORTAL ON OUR WEBSITE WHERE ANYONE CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS GLOBAL ISSUE AND HOW THEY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE3)ERADICATE, WE BELIEVE THAT IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. THE CALL TO ACTION IS TO BECOME A MEMBER OF OUR ARMY OF DIFFERENCE MAKERS AND BECOME ADVOCATES FOR CHANGE IN EACH PERSON'S COMMUNITIES BY GETTING EDUCATED AND LEARNING HOW THEY CAN HELP. AS DIFFERENCE MAKERS COME TOGETHER, THERE IS OPPORTUNITY AND POWER TO PUT AN END TO MODERN DAY SLAVERY.IN 2017, MISSION 14 CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON ATTRACTING A GLOBAL AUDIENCE TO DRIVE ACTION IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND THE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN. WE OFFERED AN ADVENTURE TRIP TO CLIMB MACHU PICHU ENCOURAGING EACH PARTICIPANT TO REACH OUT TO THEIR SOCIAL NETWORK FOR DONATIONS AND/OR PLEDGES TO MISSION 14. EACH PARTICIPANT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER OWN TRIP COSTS SO THAT THERE WERE NO PROGRAM COSTS INCURRED FOR MISSION 14. THIS ADVENTURE AND SIMILAR FUTURE ONES HELP TO PROMOTE OUR VISION OF ENGAGEMENT - A CALL TO INDIVIDUAL ACTION, TO "BE BRAVE". THE RESULT ARE NOT JUST FUNDS RAISED TO SUPPORT OUR EXISTING AND NEW PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS ON THE FRONT LINES, BUT CONTINUING TO INCREASE AN ARMY OF DIFFERENCE MAKERS AT HOME, IN COMMUNITIES AND THE WORKPLACE. SEWING CENTER OUR PARTNERSHIP CONTINUED TO GROW WITH ORPHANETWORK HELPING TO SUPPORT THE SEWING CENTER IN ITS SECOND FULL YEAR AS ITS OWN NGO IN NICARAGUA. THE SEWING CENTER LAUNCHED IT FIRST TRAINING COURSES TO OFFER INDIVIDUAL SKILLS TRAINING ON OPERATING SEWING MACHINES AND PUTTING GARMENTS TOGETHER. THIS COURSE WAS DEVELOPED BY THE CENTER MANAGER WHO PARTNERED WITH ANOTHER ORGANIZATION AS WELL AS LOCAL FACTORY OWNERS TO IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC NEEDS THEY WERE LOOKING FOR IN THEIR WORKFORCE. IN 2017, THE 90-DAY COURSE WAS OFFERED TO AN ORGANIZATION TO BRING THEIR ORPHANED TEENS AS WELL AS INDIVIDUALS SELECTED FROM ITS PARTNER CHURCHES IN MANAGUA. UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM, THE CENTER ASSISTS GRADUATES WITH JOB PLACEMENT WHERE THEY CAN USE THEIR NEWLY ACQUIRED SKILLS. THROUGH THE COURSE, THERE WAS A 95% JOB PLACEMENT RATE WITH THE LOCAL FACTORIES. HUMAN TRAFFICKING SEMINARLAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST MODERN DAY SLAVERY BUT WITHOUT EFFECTIVE TRAINING, THEY ARE ILL-EQUIPPED. WITH LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT BUDGET CUTS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND A LACK OF HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING ISSUES, OUR OFFICERS FIGHT A LOSING BATTLE.MISSION 14 PARTNERED WITH THE MARYLAND GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF CRIME CONTROL & PREVENTION, THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, DISTRICT OF MARYLAND, AND THE MARYLAND HUMAN TRAFFICKING TASK FORCE TO HOST THE MARYLAND HUMAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATORS SEMINARS. THE SEMINARS ARE OFFERED TO PROSECUTORS, AND PATROL OFFICERS FROM MARYLAND, DELAWARE, VIRGINIA AND WASHINGTON DC BUT WE HAVE HAD ATTENDEES COME FROM AS FAR AWAY AS TEXAS. IT COULD BE OFFERED FREE TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF GENEROUS FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM CORPORATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS. THE PROGRAM EDUCATED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS FROM LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES ON THE ISSUE OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR NETWORKING AND COLLABORATION AS WELL.
