Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2

Patricia and Thomas Norman are married.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11

The 990 is reviewed by the finance committee prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

The board has a conflict of interest policy that they sign and renew each year. In the event of a conflict of interest the board member announces that they have a conflict and recuses themselves from the conversation and vote. If further evaluation is needed the remaining board will evaluate the conflict of interest and vote on it.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15A

The Board of Directors is involved with determining the compensation for all positions within the organization. The Executive Director puts together a first draft of the budget which includes salary for all positions which the finance committee reviews and then passes to the full Board of Directors for approval. These salaries are determined using comparable data from other non-profit and human service organizations. All discussions are documented in the meeting minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The organization makes its governing documents and conflict of interest policy available to the public by written request to the executive director

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

The Organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes on income related to its tax exempt purpose under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the "Code") and applicable state statutes. The Organization is liable for federal and state taxes on any unrelated business income, as defined in the Code. The Organization follows Financial Accounting Standards Board guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. The Organization's policy is to record a liability for any tax position taken that is beneficial to the Organization, including any related interest and penalties, when it is more likely than not the position taken by management with respect to a transaction or class of transactions will be overturned by a taxing authority upon examination. Management believes there are no such positions as of December 31, 2015 and 2014, and accordingly, no liability has been accrued.

IRS990/Desc0During 2015 Charlotte Bridge Home served nearly 600 unique military/veteran families which included almost 1,500 people. This represents a 4x increase from the previous year's performance. Our direct services include the identification, triage and refferal of over 1,000 different services for these services. Allowing each family to recieve the support and opportunity to realize their unique goals. By leveraging existing community resources, building relationships between those resources and acting as the "bridge" for providers and veterans the families we serve are able to more effectively and efficiently access the appropriate and available resources in the community. Providers can remain focused on delivering best-in-class care and we ensure that connections are made to holistically support the families.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0In 2015, CBH's outreach program connected with more than 1,000 total veterans and identified 360 new veterans. Being able to expand our reach to veterans and families from each era of conflict allows us to assist in empowering them to lead high-quality lives. Charlotte Bridge Home's Outreach program sets the conditions for veterans and the community to come together during pro-active networking events such as workouts, volunteer projects and traditional events (coffees, lunches, happy hours, etc.). Our goal is to increase engagement of veterans and civilian supporters by strengthening our community and to promote individual mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Our full time Outreach Specialist currently orchestrates community events with the goal of improving the quality of life for returned service members of all (dis)abilities through career readiness, family and social support, and recreation. The growth in this program has lead to a more sustainable veteran community and acts as a force multiplier for our other program areas by engaging leaders in the community to engage in peer support which aleviates the amount of formal support needed through our direct service areas.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/ExpenseAmt0127040
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Employment support remains our number one service request, which is consistent over the past 4 years. In 2015 CBH directly supported 283 separate requests for employment services. Of those requesting support 98 individuals were employed full-time or part-time. While this only represents a 33% success rate, we were able to accurately aggregate the number of services requested from over 40 different agencies and have put a system in place to more effectively support the employment needs of our veterans. This accomplishment will ensure more effective outcomes in subsequent years and acts as a benchmark for where we are starting to gather and analyze our performace.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The Organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes on income related to its tax exempt purpose under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the "Code") and applicable state statutes.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Patricia and Thomas Norman are married.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The 990 is reviewed by the finance committee prior to filing.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The board has a conflict of interest policy that they sign and renew each year. In the event of a conflict of interest the board member announces that they have a conflict and recuses themselves from the conversation and vote. If further evaluation is needed the remaining board will evaluate the conflict of interest and vote on it.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The Board of Directors is involved with determining the compensation for all positions within the organization. The Executive Director puts together a first draft of the budget which includes salary for all positions which the finance committee reviews and then passes to the full Board of Directors for approval. These salaries are determined using comparable data from other non-profit and human service organizations. All discussions are documented in the meeting minutes.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4The organization makes its governing documents and conflict of interest policy available to the public by written request to the executive director
