Senior advisors project:the eminent persons group is comprised of senior advisors to the u.s./middle east project, former governmental wise men and women, and among the most influential members of the u.s. Foreign policy community, all of whom agreed to serve in a voluntary capacity under the chairmanship of ambassador thomas pickering. The usmep's senior advisors have prepared and presented a series of specific policy proposals for u.s. Middle east policy dealing with the israel-palestinian conflict.our u.s. Senior advisors are: zbigniew brzezinski, former national security adviser to president carter; lee h. Hamilton, former chair of the u.s. House committee on foreign affairs; carla hills, former u.s. Trade representative; nancy kassebaum-baker, former member of the u.s. Senate; samuel a. Nunn, former member of the u.s. Senate; thomas r. Pickering, former under secretary of state and former u.s. Ambassador to the united nations; brent scowcroft, former national security adviser to president gerald ford and president george h.w. Bush; paul a. Volcker, chair of president obama's economic advisory group and former chairman of the federal reserve; and james d. Wolfensohn, former president of the world bank and special envoy for the gaza disengagement for the quartet on the middle east.
Activity 3
Joint consultations between u.s. Senior advisors and the european eminent persons group:in 2009, the usmep helped establish the european eminent persons group (eepg) to parallel its own senior advisors group in order to facilitate more effective and coordinated transatlantic policy planning. The co-chairs of the eepg are from the e3 countries-germany, france and the u.k.-sir jeremy greenstock, former u.k. Ambassador to the un, wolfgang ischinger, former german ambassador to the u.s. And currently head of the munich security conference, and hubert vedrine, former french foreign minister. The group's membership is composed of former european presidents, prime ministers and foreign ministers.the american and european groups plan to work in transatlantic collaboration to monitor and assess policies of the u.s. And european governments, and to meet with their respective governmental policy makers to propose initiatives to help move the peace process forward.
