Mission

Watch's mission is to make the justice system more effective and responsive in handling cases of domestic violence and juvenile sex trafficking, to improve outcomes for women and children who have been victimized, and to create a more informed and involved public. Watch envisions a judicial system that consistently treats women and children subjected to violence and sex trafficking fairly, expeditiously, and effectively so that victims are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety and achieve stability and success. Watch's work leads to greater safety and stability for victims of violence and greater accountability for violent offenders, and raises public awareness about the prevalence and consequences of domestic violence and sex trafficking.

Watch's mission is to make the justice system more effective and responsive in handling cases of violence, particularly against women and children, and to create a more informed and involved public. Watch volunteers attend court regularly. Watch staff is also at the table for relevant committees and task forces, working with court and community partners, with a strong commitment to fair, transparent courts.

IN LATE 2013, WATCH HIRED A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WHO IS FOCUSED ON EXPANDING WATCH'S COURT MONITORING TO INCLUDE MONITORING CASES OF MINOR SEX TRAFFICKING THROUGHOUT MINNESOTA, NOT JUST THOSE IN HENNEPIN COUNTY. THE FIRST PLANNED EXPANSION IS TO RAMSEY COUNTY, WHERE A RELATIVELY LARGE NUMBER OF SEX TRAFFICKING CASES ARE BEING PROSECUTED. WATCH IS ALSO PURSUING OPPORTUNITIES TO TRANSFORM ITS WEBSITE INTO A NATIONAL FORUM FOR DISCUSSION ON ISSUES RELATED TO SEX TRAFFICKING AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN AS IT PERTAINS TO THE COURTS.

WATCH NEARLY DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS SINCE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW ONLINE TRAINING.IN THE SPRING OF 2014, WATCH OFFICIALLY BEGAN TO SEND TRAINED COURT MONITORS INTO THE RAMSEY COUNTY COURTROOMS TO MONITOR CASES OF MINOR SEX TRAFFICKING. THIS WILL ALLOW WATCH STAFF TO COMPARE OUTCOMES OF THESE CASES TO THAT OF THOSE IN HENNEPIN COUNTY. THE PROJECT REMAINS ONGOING.WATCH RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE POHLAD FOUNDATION IN THE SPRING OF 2014, ALLOWING WATCH TO RE-INVENT THE ORGANIZATION'S WEBSITE. THE NEW WEBSITE CONTAINED ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION, VOLUNTEER/ INTERN INFORMATION, DONATION INFORMATION, AND ALL OF THEIR REPORTS THAT HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED.
