Hope's relationships with residents are rooted in respect and mutual accountability. As a property owner committed to its buildings for the long-term, Hope is responsible for the traditional duties of a real estate asset manager financial oversight, selection of property manager, compliance with regulatory agreements, capital improvement planning, etc. However, Hope's idea of asset management involves a much broader understanding of how to maintain their real estate as a long-term asset. Key to that understanding is relationship maintaining relationships with residents, funders, government partners, neighbors, community members, and many others. Hope is involved with groups such as the local business association, neighborhood association, and City planning committees. Considerable effort is spent to connect the distinct functions of Hope's community engagement and property management work. |

Hope conceived and launched (in partnership with Aeon) a redevelopment vision to bring life to a highly-visible and abandoned intersection. The South Quarter project has transformed the area bringing much-needed housing, new businesses and space for the community to gather. The overall South Quarter project includes over 250 new units on all four corners of the strategic intersection at Portland and Franklin Avenues in Minneapolis and honors diversity, affordability and economic opportunity, all central to Hope's vision for neighborhood revitalization. Hope owns an additional 47 units of affordable housing in smaller and rehabbed buildings on the Hope Block adjacent to the South Quarter. Community garden space, a picnic pavilion and brightly colored playgrounds in the midst of Hope housing encourage children, adults and families to gather as neighbors. In the last few years Hope has raised $3 million for improvements to the older buildings, as well as common area improvements including refurbishing of play areas, picnic pavilion and storm water drainage. |
