Mission

Turning point has been providing a safety net for adult and child victims of domestic and sexual violence in the metro detroit area since 1980. Our mission is to provide programs and resources that enable survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to regain control of their lives.

The internal committee will meet to review the draft 990 tax return before it is mailed. They will report to the full board of directors at their next scheduled meeting.

The conflict of interest policy is part of the yearly board monitoring calendar which yearly reviews governance policies and by-laws and is signed by all board members. It is the responsibility of every board member to state any potential conflict of interest they may pose at any given time during discussion and voting on an issue. All board members are reminded annually of the conflict of interest policy during their self evaluation.

Turning point has established salary ranges that were recommended by the personnel committee and approved by the full board of directors each year. The established salary ranges were set after comparing turning point salaries to other non- profit organizations in southeast michigan. The ceo salary is determined by the board of directors within the set salary ranges. Other key staff salaries are set by the ceo based upon each staff's experience and education within the set salary ranges.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Turning point, inc. Has received notification that it qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under section 501 (c)(3) of the u.s. Internal revenue code and corresponding provisions of state law and, accordingly, is not subject to federal or state income taxes. Based on its evaluation, the organization has concluded that there are no significant uncertain tax positions requiring recognition in its financial statements. The organization is no longer subject to u.s. Federal income tax examinations by the internal revenue service for the years before september 30, 2011. The organization is not currently under examination by any taxing jurisdiction.

THERAPISTS TRAINED IN TRAUMA ARE AVAILABLE TO GUIDE ADULTS AND CHILDREN THROUGH THE HEALING PROCESS AND ALSO PROVIDE ACCESS TO GROUP SUPPORT AT NO CHARGE. COUNSELORS AND ADVOCATES ALSO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT AS SURVIVORS NAVIGATE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND OTHER SOCIAL SERVICE SYSTEMS. STAFF IS ON SITE TO MEET WITH VICTIMS PRIOR TO COURT HEARINGS TO PROVIDE SAFETY PLANNING, CRISIS INTERVENTION, AND ADVOCACY. WE ALSO HAVE ESTABLISHED A PROGRAM OFFICE AT THE MACOMB COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT PROVIDING DANGER ASSESSMENTS AND OTHER RESOURCES FOR INDIVIDUALS SEEKING PERSONAL PROTECTION ORDERS. TURNING POINT'S CHILDREN'S PROGRAM STAFF WAS RECOGNIZED WITH THE SEEDLING AWARD FROM THE MICHIGAN COALITION TO END DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUPPORT SERVICES TO CHILDREN IN SHELTER AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO EMERGENCY AND SUPPORT SERVICES WE ALSO DELIVER A COMPREHENSIVE PREVENTION PROGRAM ON DATING VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT TO OVER 6,000 COMMUNITY YOUTH EACH YEAR. THE PROGRAM OPERATES IN 60% OF THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN MACOMB COUNTY. EXPERIENCED STAFF PROVIDES AN EVIDENCE BASED CURRICULUM, DEVELOPED BY TURNING POINT, WHICH EDUCATES YOUTH ON THE DYNAMICS OF ABUSE, BYSTANDER EDUCATION, AND HOW TO ASSIST A FRIEND COPING WITH THIS PROBLEM.
