TPN is a non-governmental network that provides politicians, business, academics and other interested participants from both sides of the Atlantic with opportunities to address both current transatlantic issues and future challenges. Its objectives are as follows:First, to facilitate constructive dialogue at a strategic level between the E.U. and the U.S. for all participants of the network;Second, to help this partnership adjust to new challenges and opportunities; to identify common interests and to reduce the scope for misunderstandings between the transatlantic partners, and to promote cooperation between E.U. and U.S. governments;Third, to act as a communications mechanism for ideas on policy issues. Wherever possible, TPN works with established organizations and institutions, avoiding duplication and enhancing specific objectives.

“The transatlantic policy network (tpn) serves as a nonpartisan educational think tank whose overall mission is to educate individuals, academic institutions, businesses, political figures and the public at large about the benefits of a partnership between the european union and the united states. The tpn explores ways to deepen transatlantic relations and bring together stakeholders to educate one another about the benefits of transatlantic partnerships in various aspects. The tpn does not conduct any lobbying. Rather, its goal is to educate and share ideas about the mutual interests, challenges and issues that impact both the u.s. And the e.u. The united states and the european union maintain the closest strategic partnership in today's world, based on joint interests, strong cultural ties, and shared values. Both sides remain each other's indispensable partners and allies on a host of political, security, and other challenges, from international terrorism and climate change to conflicts in europe and the middle east, the promotion of human rights and the rule of law, and international development. The united states and europe also share the largest and most deeply integrated economic relationship in today's world economy, accounting for almost half of global gross domestic product (gdp) and nearly a third of world-wide trade flows. Both markets - by a wide margin - are each other's primary sources and destinations of foreign direct investment (fdi) flows, supporting an estimated 14 million jobs. There are few global challenges - political, security, economic, or otherwise - that either transatlantic partner can address effectively by 'going it alone'. When both partners act together, cooperate, and coordinate, they are much better equipped to effectively address the problems they jointly face, from the security challenges in north africa and the middle east, to the threat emanating from terrorist organizations such as the islamic state and to addressing russian expansionism in ukraine. Given the depth and breadth of economic integration and strong flows of goods and services across the atlantic, concerted u.s.-e.u. Leadership and cooperation also remains essential to solving many of the challenges confronting a changing global economy. With transatlantic data flows having become the backbone of the economies on both sides of the atlantic, u.s.-e.u. Dialogue and cooperation on data protection and privacy issues, cyber security, and shared standards for new products and services in the digital economy are ever-more important for citizens, consumers, businesses and governments in the united states and the european union. To this end, the organization has established a network of american and european participants from the worlds of academia, politics, civil society, journalism and business. Together, the organization brings together individuals with an interest in trade, foreign policy, security policy, and other issue areas relevant to u.s.-e.u. Relations to engage in a constructive discourse through which a platform of ideas is established for educating one another about and/or addressing the issues that impact and affect the u.s.-e.u. Relationship. Broadly-based participation from individuals and organizations from a variety of backgrounds and sectors is encouraged to ensure that the discussions involve diverse contributions and perspectives that can help move u.s.-e.u. Cooperation forward. As a result, the tpn offers a forum for stakeholders to maintain an open and frank dialogue between both sides of the atlantic; to promote discussion and greater understanding, even during occasional periods of discord, of the value of u.s.-e.u. Cooperation; and to help both sides recognize their common interests and the benefits they receive from a strong transatlantic relationship. An inclusive, participatory framework is created where the views of all stakeholders count and are intended to be shared. The network does not take issue-spe”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | Educational Roundtable events:To enable the Network to function effectively, and to achieve the objectives outlined above, the core of the activities are centered around educational roundtable events held on both sides of the Atlantic, in Brussels as well as Washington, DC. These roundtables convene a limited number of participants - between 25 and 30 people - focusing on current as well as future themes and issues in U.S.-E.U. relations. They serve as a forum for continuous dialogue on transatlantic relations among the diverse group of participants outlined above. The roundtable format allows the Network to respond in a more flexible manner to new and emerging issues in U.S.-E.U. relations or topics outside the main focus as these types of events are more easily organized, require short lead times and bring together core communities of those interested in the subject at hand. Where possible, the roundtables seek to take advantage of opportunities created by visits to Washington, DC from E.U. officials or Members of the European Parliament and include them in events as speakers and/or participants. Conversely, visiting U.S. officials and U.S. Members of Congress participate in roundtable events in Brussels. These roundtables prepare the ground for discussions at a series of events organized in Washington, DC known as Transatlantic Week and also serve as follow-up events focusing on specific aspects raised at the main event itself. TPN events are designed to be mutually re-in forcing. This means that together, these events help to achieve a multiplying effect for the ideas discussed at Transatlantic Week, offer opportunities for regular dialogue among participants, achieve an up-to-date agenda for the main event by feeding in topical issues, maintain a higher profile for U.S.-E.U. cooperation throughout the year, blending together the two main activities of the TPN. |

The event brings together participants from diverse areas and backgrounds in order to: -Educate participants on the value of closer cooperation between the U.S. and the E.U. in regards to strategic, foreign policy, economic and trade, and security issues and any other concerns in U.S.-E.U. relations;-Hold dialogues on both current and future challenges facing the transatlantic partners that bring together policy-makers, legislators, and other stakeholders in U.S.-E.U. relations in order to promote general understanding, dialogue, and cooperation; -Discuss new ideas to address these issues and develop general recommendations for further discussion and joint action; -Communicate and highlight these ideas to decision-makers and opinion-shapers inside and outside the network in order to strengthen U.S.-E.U. cooperation; and-Help build new working relationships and maintain existing ones between a wide range of key players on both sides of the Atlantic by providing a forum for face-to-face interaction and discussion at the event; these working relationships can help to strengthen the overall U.S.-E.U. partnership, anticipate future problems, and underpin official cooperation, especially during times of disagreement. The Transatlantic Week combines big picture plenary sessions and smaller roundtable sessions on specific issues areas related to U.S.-E.U. cooperation. Receptions and other sessions serve to build closer professional relationships among participants that can help to stabilize the overall U.S.-E.U. relations in times of disagreement.A Transatlantic Week conference held in 2015 was attended by nearly 350 participants including almost 100 visitors from Europe. The event consisted of twelve different sessions and roundtables with over 50 speakers plus half-a-dozen side events co-organized with partner organizations.Due to the U.S. elections and transition, TPN did not organize a 2016 Transatlantic Week. Plans for a 2017 Transatlantic Week are now underway. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | THE TRANSATLANTIC POLICY NETWORK (TPN) SERVES AS A NONPARTISAN EDUCATIONAL THINK TANK WHOSE OVERALL MISSION IS TO EDUCATE INDIVIDUALS, ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS, BUSINESSES, POLITICAL FIGURES AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE UNITED STATES. THE NETWORK DOES NOT TAKE ISSUE-SPE |
