“Safe Humane Chicago provided Chicago Public Schools (CPS) with a one-time-only Safe Humane Youth Ambassadors Program in four high schools in the Englewood community: John Hope, TEAM Englewood, Paul Robeson and William Raines Harper. It is based on Safe Humane's very successful Youth Leaders Program developed and proven in two CPS high schools, Walter Payton and Robert Lindblom and the Lifetime Bonds programs at the Illinois Youth Center Chicago and with 16th Judicial Circuit (Kane County) Court Services and YMCA's Youth Safety and Violence Prevention (YSVP). The actual programming was restructured to meet the needs of the participating students, the timetable, and the logistics required, all with CPS participation and support. The project is part of the CPS commitment to supporting CPS students with Social-Emotional Learning skills, job skills and innovative, engaging after-school programming.”

“For the 2017-2018 school year, Safe Humane Chicago (SHC) suspended Youth Leaders programming due to funding and staffing constraints, recognizing the high logistical costs associated with going to elementary schools across the city. SHC took a hiatus in VALOR programming due mainly to the lack of mental-health or social-service support that our partners at the VA Hospitals could provide and lack of funding for a program coordinator or manager. SHC renamed and refocused the "Re-Entry" programming with the cleaning staff at Chicago Animal Care & Control (CACC), removing it from the list of Lifetime Bonds programs, which is focused on youth and young adults and creating a Community Re-Entry category to incorporate the emphasis on job skills and opportunities.”
