The purpose of kankakee county community services, inc. Is to help people improve their lives by empowering families, individuals and communities to become sustainable, while raising sensitivity regarding the effects of poverty.

The purpose of kankakee county community services, inc. Shall be to generate and stimulate available local, private, state and federal resources toward enabling low-income families and individuals to attain the skills, knowledge, motivations, and opportunities to become self-sufficient. Kankakee county community services, inc. Shall seek to be a catalyst and advocate for the interest of the poor in order to make the area served more responsive to the needs of low-income persons and families and to bring about greater institutional sensitivity to their condition.

Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america requires accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, which provides guidance on how to measure and account for various tax positions. As of december 31, 2015, the agency had no amounts related to unrecognized income tax benefits and no amounts related to accrued interest and penalties. The agency does not anticipate any significant changes to unrecognized income tax benefits over the next year.

WEATHERIZATION SERVICES CONSIST OF COST-EFFECTIVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES FOR EXISTING RESIDENTIAL AND MULTIFAMILY HOUSING WITH LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS. THERE ARE THREE COMPONENTS TO THE WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM: MECHANICAL, ARCHITECTURAL AND HEALTH AND SAFETY. THE MECHANICAL COMPONENT ADDRESSES THE HEATING AND COOLING OPERATIONAL SYSTEM, HOT WATER HEATER AND THE VENTILATION OF THE HOME. THE ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENT ADDRESSES THE WHOLE HOUSE, WHICH INCLUDES THE OUTER SHELL, THE INSULATION, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND AIR SEALING. THE HEALTH AND SAFETY COMPONENT PROTECTS THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE CLIENT AND THEIR FAMILY AS WELL AS THE IHWAP WORKERS.LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP):THE LIHEAP IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES AN OFFSET TO THE HIGH COST OF HEAT RELATED UTILITIES FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. FOR HOUSEHOLDS THAT ARE DISCONNECTED FROM A HEATING SOURCE, THE RE-CONNECT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDES GUIDELINES TO HELP GET THE HOUSEHOLD SERVICES RESTORED UPON COMPLETION OF APPLICATION.THE EMERGENCY FURNACE PROGRAM PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS WITH A NON-OPERATIONAL FURNACE.COMED CARE ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS OFFER THE RESIDENTIAL SPECIAL HARDSHIP FUND FOR HOUSEHOLDS IN NEED. THIS GRANT PROVIDES ASSISTANCE BEYOND OTHER PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS SPECIAL HARDSHIP CASES.OUR LIHEAP PROGRAM SERVICED AN ESTIMATED TOTAL OF 2,897 LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN KANKAKEE COUNTY. THE DAYS OF CARE PROVIDED WERE 251 BUSINESS DAYS.

THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE GIVEN ACCESS TO TRAINING SITES VIA NON-PROFIT OR GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTIES OF WILL AND KANKAKEE. EACH INDIVIDUAL CAN TRAIN FOR 20 HOURS A WEEK WHILE EARNING AN HOURLY WAGE OF $8.25. EACH PERSON IS REQUIRED TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT WHILE TRAINING AS WELL AS ENGAGE IN WORKSHOPS, JOB FAIRS AND JOB DEVELOPMENT TRAININGS OFFERED OR SCHEDULED BY THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR. WHILE ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM, PARTICIPANTS LEARN TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH POSITIONS SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, CLERICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT, CHILD CARE, MAINTENANCE AND JANITORIAL, CASE MANAGEMENT, INVENTORY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. THESE POSITIONS WERE PROVIDED BY AGENCIES SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, CENTER OF HOPE IN KANKAKEE, THE SALVATION ARMY IN KANKAKEE, MILLER'S REHABILITATION CENTER IN KANKAKEE, PEMBROKE LORENZO SMITH SCHOOL IN PEMBROKE TOWNSHIP, LIFT HIM UP MINISTRIES IN JOLIET, NEW HOPE IN MONEE, BOUNCE BACK SOCIAL SERVICES IN JOLIET AND THE FOREST PARK COMMUNITY CENTER IN JOLIET.DURING THE 2015 CALENDAR YEAR, 69 OLDER ADULTS RECEIVED 44,608.75 HOURS OF TRAINING. OF WHICH, 12 TRANSITIONED ONTO REAL-WORLD EMPLOYMENT FROM SCSEP.CLUB BOOMERS & MEALS ON WHEELS:THE CLUB BOOMERS SENIOR SERVICES PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR SENIORS 60 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER. KCCSI OFFERS THE MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM TO THE HOMEBOUND IN KANKAKEE COUNTY AS WELL AS WILL COUNTY BEGINNING APRIL 2015. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED MEALS TO HELP ENSURE THAT THE DIETARY NEEDS OF THE SENIORS ARE BEING MET. IN ADDITION, KCCSI OPERATES 4 DINING CENTERS IN KANKAKEE COUNTY AND 10 DINING CENTERS IN WILL COUNTY FOR THOSE SENIORS WHO ARE MOBILE AND ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ACTIVITIES, TRIPS, EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND LUNCHES THAT ARE PROVIDED DAILY IN OUR SITES. ISOLATION AND LONELINESS ARE SERIOUS ISSUES THAT AFFECT OUR SENIOR POPULATION. OFFERING A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR SENIORS TO ATTEND ALLOWS THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS AND SATISFY THEIR NEED FOR COMPANIONSHIP AS WELL AS TO MEET THEIR NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS. THE SENIOR CENTER LOCATIONS ARE IN KANKAKEE, PEMBROKE, SUN RIVER TERRACE, LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP, CHANNAHON, FRANKFORT, UNIVERSITY PARK, WILMINGTON, SENIOR SERVICES CENTER OF WILL COUNTY, LOCKPORT, NEW LENOX, BOLINGBROOK, MONEE, AND JOLIET(JOSHUA ARMS). PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED INFORMATION ON EVERYDAY FINANCES, CREDIT MANAGEMENT AND BUDGETING. THE YOUR MONEY YOUR LIFE CURRICULUM FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION IS USED TO ENHANCE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE.51 FAMILIES WERE PROVIDED RENTAL ASSISTANCE IN THE FORM OF A ONE-TIME PAYMENT TO THE LANDLORD TO HELP WITH FAMILY STABILITY. 270 NIGHTS OF SHELTER WERE GIVEN TO 49 FAMILIES WHO DUE TO THEIR PRESENT SITUATION BECAME HOMELESS.THE FOOD PANTRY PROVIDED FOOD TO HELP 3,783 UNDUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS MEET THEIR NUTRITIONAL NEEDS BY PROVIDING A WIDE VARIETY OF FOOD CHOICES.INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED TO 1,231 INDIVIDUALS IN THE FORM OF INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL REFERRALS TO HELP THEM FIND THE SERVICES THAT ARE NEEDED.FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM:THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE TRAINING ON FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT USING THE YOUR MONEY YOUR LIFE CURRICULUM. KCCSI HAS AN INSTRUCTOR CERTIFIED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS IN FINANCIAL LITERACY. THIS CURRICULUM OFFERS TRAINING IN MANAGING FINANCES, SAVINGS, CREDIT, DEBT MANAGEMENT AND PREDETORY LENDING. STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE POSITIVE SPENDING CHOICES, VALUES AWARENESS AND DEBT REDUCTION. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CONTINUE THEIR FINANCIAL EDUCATION AFTER THE GROUP SETTING WITH THE FDIC MONEY SMART INTERACTIVE PROGRAM ALONG WITH ONE ON ONE COUNSELING.EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAM:EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAMMING INCLUDES THE CHRONIC DISEASE SELF MANAGEMENT AND MATTER OF BALANCE FALL PREVENTION PROGRAM. BOTH OF THE CLASSES ARE EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAMS. THE CLASSES INCLUDE 6-8 WEEKS FOR CLASS TIME WITH AN OVERALL GOAL OF IMPROVING THE LIVES OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ATTEND THE SESSIONS.

THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE COMMUNITY YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM WAS TO ALLOW YOUTH TO ENGAGE IN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO INCREASE THEIR EMPLOYABILITY AND SKILLSET. THESE YOUTH WORKED AT THE CITY OF KANKAKEE, FARMER'S MARKET, THE KANKAKEE PUBLIC LIBRARY, THE BRADLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY, THE KANKAKEE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE VILLAGE OF BRADLEY AS WELL AS KCCSI. THEIR POSITIONS INCLUDED, BUT WERE NOT LIMITED TO, CLERICAL SUPPORT, MAINTENANCE AND JANITORIAL, CUSTOMER SERVICE, TUTORING AND PUBLIC SAFETY. DURING THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAM, 17 YOUTH ENGAGED IN 3,366.50 HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT.
