Mission

The purpose of kankakee county community services, inc. Is to help people improve their lives by empowering families, individuals and communities to become sustainable, while raising sensitivity regarding the effects of poverty.

Major Activities

Activity 2
The human services program offers a wide variety of programs designed to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families to help them reach self-sufficiency. These include csbg scholarships, rental assistance, shelter assistance, utility assistance, food pantry, financial literacy, back to school services and job services. The human services department networks with other agencies and programs to help the clients receive the assistance they are in need of.according to the single tracking and reporting system, in 2011, 7,342 individuals in 4,349 families received assistance. This is an unduplicated number as clients can receive more than one service but will only be counted once. The ethnic breakout is as follows: 2,843 were caucasian, 3,964 were african-american, 459 were hispanic and 76 were other.kankakee county community services, inc. Began offering financial literacy workshops in 2007. Kccsi has an instructor certified by university of illinois in the your money your life financial curriculum. In addition, kccsi has incorporated the fdic money smart interactive financial literacy material into the program. The goal is to help individuals and families gain a better understanding of financial management including, but not limited to, budgeting and credit.the csbg scholarship program provides scholarships to individuals who demonstrate financial need and high academic potential. To be considered, the student must be attending or will attend a college, university or trade school in the state of illinois,the emergency services program (encompassing shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance) helps families or individuals who are facing a one-time crisis with a monetary or non monetary benefit.the kccsi c.a.p. Foods pantry provides food to help meet the nutritional needs of families and individuals.the back to school program provides school supplies to children in grades k-12 to help with the tools that are needed for a successful school year.the job services program works with the unemployed and underemployed on job searches and resume development. Job fairs are held each year to connect job seekers to potential employers.through the veterans assistance program, we partnered with the local veterans assistance commission to provide hearing aids and/or dental work to veterans who met the programs guidelines.
Activity 3
The meals on wheels program along with the congregate dining program has brought over 36,100 meals to the senior citizens of kankakee county. With the increasing need for services and the increasing cost of services, kccsi has been able to maintain a quality service to our senior population. In addition, we are serving our seniors needs throughout kankakee county with our senior centers. The seniors have an opportunity to socialize daily with friends and partake in activities and educational workshops. We are offering evidence based workshops that are relevant to senior issues.the meals on wheels program provides a noon time meal to approximately 100 senior citizens in kankakee county daily. In addition, many of our most vulnerable seniors are receiving a second meal or weekend meals to help meet their nutritional needs. The main objective of the meals on wheels program is to offset malnutrition and provide the seniors with a daily visit from their driver. Malnutrition leads to many other serious health related conditions. With the daily visit from their driver, seniors know that a friendly face will be there monday thru friday to check on them.the congregate dining program and senior isolation prevention program offers our seniors an opportunity to socialize, partake in activities and fulfill their need for interaction as well participate in a lunch time program. The main objective of the congregate program is to offset the effects of isolation and loneliness which can lead to depression and other mental and physical related illnesses.both program components serve senior citizens who are 60 years of age and older who reside within kankakee county. Neither program is income driven; it is based on need.the senior community service employment program (scsep) provides employment services to persons 55 years of age and older who are ready to return to the work environment. These individuals are placed at various not-for-profit agencies and governmental agencies to learn valuable employment skills while compensating the need of the agency. The scsep program provided 15,893 hours of community service work to local not-for-profit and governmental entities in 2011.the scsep program provided training positions for 29 individuals in kankakee county in 2011. In addition to receiving the training, 4 of these scsep participants were hired by their hosting agency. The program provides services to the seniors who are most in need, which is a qualifying factor to the program.

THE PROGRAM MAY REPAIR, RETROFIT, OR REPLACE A FURNACE WITHIN 48 HOURS FROM THE DATE AN APPLICATION WAS COMPLETED.THE ESTIMATED NUMBER OF CLIENTS SERVED- 4100; THE ESTIMATED NUMBER OF DAYS SERVED- 80; THE ESTIMATED AVERAGE PAYMENT- $340.00.THE ILLINOIS WEATHERIZATION HOME ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PRIMARILY HELPS LOW INCOME RESIDENTS SAVE ENERGY AND MONEY, WHILE INCREASING THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES.
