Activity 2

Membership Services:The Department of Membership is responsible for developing and executing initiatives that provide significant financial and volunteer resources to support the AOA's mission by retaining and recruiting 42,083 members. Membership projects build awareness of overall AOA programs that ultimately lead to improved quality of patient care, such as the iLearn Mentor Program, the Clinical Assessment Program, practice management programs for young physicians, and leadership development opportunities and information for students, interns and residents.

Activity 3

Publications:The AOA publishes peer-reviewed scientific articles in its publications that provide continuing medical education (CME) to osteopathic physicians and other readers. The articles also complement the undergraduate medical education of osteopathic medical students. The peer-reviewed publications, which include JAOA-The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, JAOA supplements, The Whole Patient supplements to the JAOA, AOA Health Watch, AOA's Women and Wellness and Dialogue and Diagnosis, are distributed to the more than 40,000 osteopathic physicians who are members of the AOA as well as medical and scientific libraries and are also available on-line. In addition, the AOA produces an online news-and-feature publication to keep osteopathic physicians and osteopathic medical students informed of the socioeconomic, regulatory and networking developments within the osteopathic medical profession specifically and medicine in general. The expenses for AOA publications cover the editorial development, production, printing, distribution and online posting.
