Activity 2

Membership Services:The Department of Membership is responsible for developing and executing initiatives that provide significant financial and volunteer resources to support the AOA's mission by retaining and recruiting about 42,000 members. Membership projects build awareness of overall AOA programs that ultimately lead to improved quality of patient care, such as the i-Learn Mentor Program, the Clinical Assessment Program, practice management programs for young physicians, and leadership development opportunities and information for students, interns and residents.

Activity 3

Publications:The AOA publishes peer-revised scientific articles in its publications, which provide Continued medical education (CME) to osteopathic physicians and other readers. The articles also compliment the undergraduate medical education of osteopathic medical students. The peer reviewed publications, which include JAOA-The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, JAOA supplements, The Whole Patient supplements to the JAOA, AOA HealthWatch, AOA's Women and Wellness and Dialogue and Diagnosis, are distributed in print to osteopathic physicians who practice in primary care specialties and select other specialties, as well as medical and scientific libraries. These publications are also available online. In addition, the AOA produces an online news-and-feature publication to keep approximately 37,000 osteopathic physicians and osteopathic medical students informed of the socioeconomic, regulatory and networking developments within the osteopathic medical profession specifically and medicine in general. The expenses for AOA publications cover the editorial department, production, printing, distribution and online posting.
