THEY ALSO ATTENDED THE CHARLESTON STEM FAIR. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME EVER A MIDLANDS SCHOOL HAS BEEN REPRESENTED IN THE COMPETITION. ON MARCH 28, BOEING SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL MANAGER AND VICE PRESIDENT JOAN ROBINSON-BERRY, AND TWO MEMBERS OF HER EXECUTIVE TEAM, VISITED LOWER RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL - HER FIRST IN-SCHOOL VISIT IN SC. DURING HER TIME ON CAMPUS, SHE RECEIVED A OVERVIEW OF STEAM PROGRAMS AND DEMONSTRATIONS/PRESENTATIONS FROM STUDENTS IN PROJECT LEAD THE WAY, ENGINEERING, STEM, ROBOTICS AND IBCC. HMS STUDENTS PLANNED AND EXECUTED A LIFECYCLE JR. SHOWCASE WHICH FEATURED STUDENT-LED SESSIONS ON GROWING WINTER VS. SUMMER VEGETABLES, SOIL TESTING, COMPOSTING, AND VERMICULTURE IN THEIR NEW COURTYARD SPACE WITH RAISED BEDS, RAIN BARRELS AND COMPOSTING STATIONS. OVER 100 PEOPLE ATTENDED. AT SMS, WE FOCUSED ON EXPANDING THEIR CLUB MODEL PROVIDING ACTIVITIES AND CURRICULUM FOR STUDENTS. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO OFFER MORE PROJECT-BASED LEARNING TRAININGS FOR TEACHERS ALONG WITH A TEACHER DISCOVERY DAY AT THE SC STATE MUSEUM AT SMS, WE COMPLETED THREE UNIQUE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDED 10 DAYS OF CUSTOMIZED, STE(A)M PROGRAMMING CO-TAUGHT WITH A LOCAL AND NATIONAL ARTIST PARTNERS
