Meals on wheels is the leading privately funded organization promoting dignity and independent living for the homebound, through volunteer delivery of nutritious meals in the greater indianapolis area.

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501 (c)(3) of the internal revenue code (code) as a charitable organization whereby only unrelated business income, as defined by section 512(a)(1) of the code, is subject to federal income tax. The organization currently has no unrelated business income. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been recorded. Management evaluates all tax positions taken or expected to be taken on its annual information returns, including the position that the organization continues to qualify to be treated as a section 501(c)(3) organization for both federal and state purposes. The annual information returns for the organization are subject to examination by taxing authorities for a period of three years from the date they are filed. As of june 30, 2017 the tax periods ended june 30, 2016, june 30, 2015, and june 30, 2014 remain subject to examination by major tax jurisdictions.
