Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 is prepared and reviewed by an independent accounting firm. A copy of the 990 will be emailed to each board member and the audit committee will perform a detailed review of the 990 prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board members annually review the conflict of interest statement and disclose any conflicts of interest. The president & ceo review all of the conflict of interest statements submitted by the board members. Board members abstained from voting and/or excused themselves from the room for discussion if they have a conflict.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The president & ceo's salary was initiated at his hiring in september, 2014. Professional literature and salary surveys are used to stay updated on salary trends for the entire staff. The finance committee reviews the salary increases and presents their salary recommendations to the entire board for approval which is noted in the board minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements available to the public upon request.

Financial Statement Notes

PART II, LINE 9:

The organization does not include the conservation easement in its revenue and expenses or balance sheet.

PART III, LINE 1A:

The site owns, displays and preserves certain personal artifacts and belongings of president benjamin harrison and his forebearers. The collections of the site include such items as personal property and historical papers and other documents of historic value. Each of the items is cataloged, preserved and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire other items for collections and to preserve artifacts. The sites collections, which are acquired through purchases and contributions since the site's inception, are not recognized as assets on the statement of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases is unrestricted net assets in the year in which the items are acquired. Contributed collection items are not reflected on the financial statements. Proceeds from deaccessions or insurance recoveries are reflected as increases in the appropriate asset class.

PART III, LINE 4:

To maintain the home of benjamin harrison, the 23rd president of the united states, at 1230 n delaware street in the city of indianapolis, indiana, as a national historic landmark in the style and manner befitting the home of this former president; to display this home to the general public as an educational and historical service; to preserve any personal property, papers, or historical documents of president benjamin harrison or relating to him and his service to the state of indiana and to the united states of america; to promote patriotism and citizenship through appropriate educational activities, such as lectures, meetings and publication of books and paper relating to the life and times of president benjamin harrison, and to obtain personal property of president benjamin harrision, or property relating to the life and times of benjamin harrison and his forebearers by solicitation or otherwise for educational displays in the benjamin harrison presidential site and other appropriate places.

PART V, LINE 4:

PART X, LINE 2:

The site is organized as a not-for-profit corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the united states internal revenue code and related state law. As such, the site is generally exempt from income taxes. However, the site is required to file federal form 990 return of organization exempt from income tax and a corresponding state return, which are informational returns only. The site is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions. However, as of the date the financial statements were available to be issued, there were no audits for any tax periods in progress. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by the site and recognize a tax liability if the site has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by various federal and state taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the site and has concluded that as of december 31, 2020 and 2019, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the accompanying financial statements.
