| Since the military coup d'etat on February 1, 2021, Burma's (Myanmar's) military junta has escalated in committing human rights violations constituting crimes against humanity and war crimes, including genocide and ethnic cleansing. This has had a serious impact on the ethnic refugees in the U.S. from the Thai/Burma region. With the attacks occurring daily against their family and friends in Burma, we have provided increased leadership development and community building to support the refugee efforts to provide advocacy for their families suffering in Burma. This has included monthly meetings across the U.S. with large refugee populations to help them coordinate their efforts to keep the U.S. State Department and United Nations and International Criminal Courts updated on the human rights violations in Burma. In addition, this has increased the need for humanitarian relief efforts in Burma. Working with refugees from the U.S. that speak the language and understand the culture, we have increased teams that can travel to the region to bring medical, food, and shelter supplies to the region, along with providing medical outreach, community building, and encouraging those who are suffering. In addition, COVID-19 poses continued challenges in the Thai/Burma region, and we sent several teams, including our Director, to the region. We completed over 125 Rapid Response Team deployments in many areas to provide medical aid and community building. Because this is an active war zone, it was difficult to navigate. Our annual trip to Washington DC continues to be scaled back. We have used Zoom meetings with the U.S. State Dept. The focus is to give them information from first-hand sources to address the lack of care and to share the escalation of violence in their country. We continued our focused mentoring of refugees around the U.S., including a renewed focus on enrolling many in their local university. Our Leadership Academy deep in the jungle (Ei Htu Hta) is doing well, with the repair of our new dormitory and expansion due to the increase in displaced people from the war. We provided a lengthy report to the U.N. Special Rapporteur for Burma as they continue to try to mitigate the violence in the region. | $0 | $50,921 |
