In accordance with accounting guidance the company performs a two-step process in recognizing and measuring uncertian tax positions. The first step is to evaluate the tax position for recognition by determining, based on technical merits of the position, whether it is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination, including resolution of any related appeals or litigation processes. The second step is to measure the tax position at the largest amount of benefit that is greater than 50 percent likely of being realized upon settlement.
