Mission

To accelerate adoption of water quality improvement practices in a seven-county area of northwest ohio by partnering with government, private business, and academia.

To maintain economic and environmental balances in ohio's agriculture through a cooperative partnership in government, private business and academia to enhance the quality of our natural resources for the benefit of all. The cap mission is to accelerate the adoption of the water quality improvements in defiance, fulton, henry, lucas, paulding, williams and wood counties.

CONTINUED WORK ON A GREAT LAKES COMMISSION (GLC) GRANT THAT WAS AWARDED IN OCTOBER 2015. THIS GRANT IS BEING USED TO RETRO-FIT NUTRIENT PLACEMENT TOOLS FOR PHOSPHORUS APPLICATION. THIS IS THE FINAL YEAR OF THE GRANT. TO DATE CAP HAS BEEN REIMBURSED 153,003. 10,000 WAS PAID OT SEILER FARMS TO REIMBURSE THEM FOR THEIR EXPENSES IN THE GRANT.-$21,583
OUTREACH TO AREA FARMERS. CANADIAN FARMER BLAKE VINCE SPOKE ABOUT HIS USE OF COVER CROPS AND LAKE ERIE ISSUES. THE BREAKFAST HAD 58 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. SPONSORED LENAWEE CONSERVATION DISTRICT FIELD DAY REACHING OVER 1,000 PEOPLE. SPONSORED WILLIAMS SWCD FIELD DAY AND AG VENTURE. FUNDED NORTHWEST OHIO CROPS DAY AND CORN/SOYBEAN DAY IN 2018 FOR EVENTS TO BE HELD IN 2019.-$10,252
PARTNERSHIP WITH CAMPBELL'S SOUP WHICH RAN THROUGH 2017 TO ASSIST WITH ELIMINATION OF NON-POINT POLLUTION FROM THE MAUMEE RIVER. DUE TO WEATHER, SEVERAL PROJECTS WERE DELAYED UNTIL 2018. THE PROGRAM FOCUSED ON NITRATE REDUCTION. TWO DRAINAGE INSTALLATIONS WERE COMPLETED IN 2018.-$8,064

Continued work on a great lakes commission (glc) grant that was awarded in october 2015. This grant is being used to retro-fit nutrient placement tools for phosphorus application. This is the final year of the grant. To date cap has been reimbursed 153,003. 10,000 was paid ot seiler farms to reimburse them for their expenses in the grant.

Partnership with campbell's soup which ran through 2017 to assist with elimination of non-point pollution from the maumee river. Due to weather, several projects were delayed until 2018. The program focused on nitrate reduction. Two drainage installations were completed in 2018.

Outreach to area farmers. Canadian farmer blake vince spoke about his use of cover crops and lake erie issues. The breakfast had 58 people in attendance. Sponsored lenawee conservation district field day reaching over 1,000 people. Sponsored williams swcd field day and ag venture. Funded northwest ohio crops day and corn/soybean day in 2018 for events to be held in 2019.

The outreach initiative "cap backer program" was developed to assist in outreach and education efforts on ohio's wleb water quality concerns. The agricultural community has launched a proactive and responsible commitment aimed at the long-term improvement of lake erie's water quality. This effort advocates the use of "4rs: right source of nutrients at the right time and right rate in the right place." registered and sent 25 individuals to attend the 2018 national no-till conference in louisville. Assist the ohio state university extension office with their research on the topic of side dressing corn with manure. This deals with when and how to apply manure in a more efficient manner, and how that decision changes with differing weather conditions. Results could aid hundreds of farmers in the future. Three farmers received 1,000 each in 2018.
