Chip is a nonprofit agency created in 1996 to advocate for people experiencing and at risk for homelessness in indianapolis and to help organizations work together to foster an effective, coordinated, community-wide approach toward ending and preventing homelessness.

Chip contracts with the united way of central indiana (uwci) for "host agency" services, which includes accounting and human resources. Uwci filed forms 1099 and w-2 on chip's behalf for chip vendors and employees.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 11G

FORM 990, PART IX, LINE 11G:

The professional services line includes expenses for independent contractors to support various programs including coordinated entry, hmis, tif projects, the annual point-in-time count, and marketing; subscriptions for our donor management software and other computer related subscriptions.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The entity receives a copy of the audit. Prior to the finalization of the audit, a copy of the audit is given to all of the board members for their comments. When the audit is up for bid, the board of directors discusses the relationship with the current auditors and makes a determination as to whether to maintain this relationship or change to a new auditing firm.

FORM 990, PART 1, LINE 6:

Chip had 130 volunteers for the 2023 homeless persons' memorial service; volunteers helped by providing a way to mourn 123 individuals who experienced homelessness and passed away collectively. Our volunteers supported the event by partaking in a combination of standing and holding a candle to represent each of our lost neighbors, as well as playing music and speaking during the event.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Establishing an endowment for the organization will help create a source of revenue to support the overall goal of long-term sustainability. Future projects funded through endowment revenue may be used to support initiatives beyond general operating purposes (i.e. Strategic planning, system upgrades and integration, etc.) the endowment will follow the special conditions and guidelines laid out by the lilly endowment. Chip's priority in setting up an endowment will be to expand the role of the finance committee, create an ad-hoc endowment sub-committee, select an investment management firm, and create an endowment investment policy.

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and state income tax and has been classified as an other than private foundation. Accordingly, no provision for federal and state taxes on revenue and income has been recognized in the accompanying financial statements. Generally, the federal and state tax returns were subject to examinations from the three years after the later of the original or extended due date or the date filed with the applicable tax authority.
