Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

The form 990 is prepared by an independent third party accounting firm. An electronic draft copy of the 990 is then forwarded to the organization's governing body. The draft 990 is reviewed by the governing body and any significant issues or suggestions are discussed. Revisions, if applicable, are made to the draft 990. The revised 990 is signed off on by the board chair, treasurer, and president. It is then signed by an officer who is authorized by the organization's bylaws to do so.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

An inspection is performed on an annual basis to monitor compliance with the conflict of interest policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board chair in conjunction with two other board directors, whom are all independent, make up a subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee serve on other boards and have general knowledge of compensation for similar for profit and not-for-profit organizations, which is taken into account to determine compensation for the president. A written employment contract is drafted. The employment contract and compensation amount are then approved by the independent members of the board of directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents and financial statements available to the public upon request. Interested parties may request these documents from joni cobb at 913-307-0004. The 990 is avaialble on the greater kansas city community foundation website at www.gkccf.org.

IRS990/Desc0OPERATING SINCE 2006, THE PIPELINE ENTREPRENEURIAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM HAS BECOME THE CRITICAL HUB OF THE MIDWEST'S EMERGING ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM. PIPELINE SUPPORTS ENTREPRENEURS THROUGHOUT THE GREATER MIDWEST WITH MAJOR HUBS IN KANSAS CITY, OMAHA, WICHITA AND LINCOLN. PIPELINE IS UNIQUE IN THE NATION, OPERATING WITH A MODEL DEVELOPED OVER YEARS OF TESTING AND INNOVATION. PIPELINE WORKS ONE ENTREPRENEUR AT A TIME; IT WORKS WITH SMALL GROUPS OF ENTREPRENEURS ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT A FEW COMMITTED INDIVIDUALS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. STARTING WITH A SMALL HANDFUL OF FIRMS, PIPELINE HAS NOW DEVELOPED A SIZABLE AND SUCCESSFUL NETWORK OF GROWING BUSINESSES. PIPELINE SERVES A MIX OF 81 ENTREPRENEURS ACROSS THE 68 MEMBERS AND CURRENT 2014 CLASS OF 13 FELLOWS. PIPELINE LED FIRMS GROW FAST. OVER AN EARLIER COMPARISON PERIOD (2007-2009), PIPELINE FIRMS SAW A 8.1% INCREASE IN EMPLOYMENT. OVER THE SAME TIME FRAME, US FIRMS SAW EMPLOYMENT DECLINE BY 5.8%. EMPLOYMENT BY KANSAS FIRMS DROPPED BY 3.6 PERCENT. AS OF DECEMBER 2012 PIPELINE FIRMS EMPLOY 858 PEOPLE ACROSS KANSAS AND THE MIDWEST. A TOTAL OF 542 JOBS HAVE BEEN CREATED SINCE PARTICIPATION IN PIPELINE. THE RAPID GROWTH OF MEMBER-LED FIRMS IS PARTICULARLY IMPRESSIVE. SINCE JOINING PIPELINE, MEMBERS HAVE GENERATED OVER $112 MILLION IN REVENUE FOR THEIR FIRMS. MEMBERS ON AVERAGE HAVE GENERATED ALMOST $2 MILLION IN REVENUE PER MEMBER. SEVEN MEMBERS HAVE ENJOYED ATTRACTIVE EXITS SINCE PARTICIPATION IN PIPELINE. THESE EXITED COMPANIES GREW REVENUES TO OVER $46 MILLION PRIOR TO EXIT. GIVEN THEIR RAPID GROWTH RATES, IT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE THAT PIPELINE ENTREPRENEURS ARE MASTERING THE ART OF RAISING OUTSIDE CAPITAL. THE PIPELINE MEMBERS HAVE RAISED MORE THAN $51 MILLION IN OUTSIDE CAPITAL SINCE 2008. FELLOWS HAVE SUCCEEDED IN ACCESSING OUTSIDE FUNDS FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES, INCLUDING VENTURE CAPITALISTS, ANGEL INVESTORS, CORPORATE INVESTORS, BANKS, AND OTHER SOURCES. PIPELINE FELLOWS HAVE ALSO SUCCESSFULLY TAPPED A WIDE RANGE OF FEDERAL AND STATE FINANCING PROGRAMS. PIPELINE SEEKS TO BUILD WORLD-CLASS FIRMS, BUT IT ALSO SEEKS TO CONSTRUCT A WORLD-CLASS ENTREPRENEURIAL INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE MIDWEST. PIPELINE ENTREPRENEURS, ADVISORS AND INVESTORS GIVE BACK BY INVESTING IN NEW BUSINESSES AND COACHING OTHER ENTREPRENEURS SO THAT FUTURE GENERATIONS CAN ALSO SUCCEED ON THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEYS. THEY THEMSELVES HAVE BECOME ESSENTIAL PLAYERS IN THE ECOSYSTEM.
