Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

This year, we changed our name from community water solutions to saha global. Additionally, we changed the name of our fellowship program to the "global leadership program" and our "fellows" are now known as "field reps." however, despite the name changes, the programs are conducted exactly the same way as they were in 2013.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Fin 48 footnote - generally accepted accounting principles in the united states of america prescribe the threshold a tax position is required to meet before being recognized in the financial statements. An additional liability for uncertain tax positions ("utps") is recognized and recorded as a component of current income tax expense for differences between financial and income tax reporting positions which do not meet this threshold. Any interest and penalties related to utps are recorded as a component of income tax expense. The tax-exempt status of an entity is considered a tax position. The organization has reviewed its income tax filings that remain subject to examination by tax authorities and has not identified any material utps and thus has not recorded any additional liability at december 31, 2014 or 2013.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0SAHA EXPANSION - IN 2013, SAHA GLOBAL EXPANDED OUR MISSION TO INCLUDE ACCESS TO SOLAR ELECTRICITY AND PILOTED A SOLAR ELECTRICITY BUSINESS IN THE COMMUNITY OF WAMBONG. AT THAT TIME, SAHA ALSO BEGAN A PARTNERSHIP WITH NEXT STEP LIVING (NSL). NSL LAUNCHED A CHARITABLE GIVING PROGRAM CALLED "NEXT STEP GIVING" AND SAHA WAS SELECTED AS THEIR FIRST NON-PROFIT PARTNER. NSL MAKES A DONATION TO SAHA EVERY MONTH. ALL DONATIONS ARE "UN-RESTRICTED FUNDS" AS STATED IN OUR MOU'S, BUT IN 2014 SAHA USED A LOT OF THIS FUNDING TO GROW OUR SOLAR PROGRAM. IN MARCH AND APRIL 2014, WE LAUNCHED 3 NEW SOLAR BUSINESSES IN KURUGU VOHOYILI, CHANI AND SAKAPALUA. THESE BUSINESSES PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO APPROXIMATELY 1,200 PEOPLE AND JOBS TO 8 WOMEN FROM THE VILLAGES.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0MONITORING AND EVALUATION: WHEN SAHA IS NOT HOSTING FIELD REPS IN GHANA, OUR GHANA STAFF IS IN CHARGE OF MONITORING THE SAHA WATER AND SOLAR BUSINESSES. EACH STAFF MEMBER (THERE ARE 5 FULL-TIME) ARE IN CHARGE ABOUT 12-18 VILLAGES EACH. THE VISITS ARE BETWEEN 2-4 VILLAGES EACH DAY. WHEN IN THE VILLAGE, STAFF MEMBER SPEAK WITH THE WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS WHO RUN THE WATER OR SOLAR BUSINESSES AND INTERVIEW THEM ABOUT SALES. THEY CHECK THE WATER LEVELS IN THE WATER TREATMENT CENTERS, AND THE NUMBER OF CELL PHONES CHARGING AT THE SOLAR BUSINESS AND VISIT BETWEEN 6-10 HOUSES IN EACH COMMUNITY TO CHECK TO SEE IF COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE STORING WATER CORRECTLY IN THEIR HOMES AND IF THEIR LANTERNS ARE WORKING CORRECTLY. ONCE A MONTH, THE STAFF MEMBERS TAKE WATER SAMPLES FROM EACH VILLAGE TO TEST IN THE LAB. THEY TEST FOR BOTH E.COLI AND TOTAL COLIFORM TO ENSURE THAT THE WATER SOLD AT THE SAHA WATER BUSINESS IS SAFE TO DRINK. STAFF MEMBERS USED TO REPORT TO SAHA GHANA COUNTRY DIRECTOR BRIANAN KIERNAN. IN AUGUST 2014, BRIANAN LEFT HER JOB WITH SAHA TO RETURN TO GRADUATE SCHOOL. SHAKUN IBRAHIM, ONE OF OUR GHANA STAFF MEMBERS, WAS PROMOTED AND NOW RUNS ALL OF GHANA'S OPERATIONS. SHAK CHECKS IN WITH OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, KATE CLOPECK ONCE A WEEK. ANOTHER GHANA TEAM MEMBER, WAHAB LAWAL, EMAILS KATE WEEKLY MONITORING REPORTS.
