Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

There were no changes during the tax year to the oversight of the audit or the selection process of an independent accountant

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Fin 48 footnote - generally accepted accounting principles in the united states of america prescribe the threshold a tax position is required to meet before being recognized in the financial statements. An additional liability for uncertain tax positions ("utps") is recognized and recorded as a component of current income tax expense for differences between financial and income tax reporting positions which do not meet this threshold. Any interest and penalties related to utps are recorded as a component of income tax expense. The tax-exempt status of an entity is considered a tax position. The organization has reviewed its income tax filings that remain subject to examination by tax authorities and has not identified any material utps and thus has not recorded any additional liability at december 31, 2015 or 2014.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0WHEN SAHA IS NOT HOSTING FIELD REPS IN GHANA, OUR GHANA STAFF IS IN CHARGE OF MONITORING THE SAHA WATER AND SOLAR BUSINESSES. EACH STAFF MEMBER (THERE ARE 5 FULLTIME) ARE IN CHARGE ABOUT 12-18 VILLAGES EACH. THE VISITS ARE BETWEEN 2-4 VILLAGES EACH DAY. WHEN IN THE VILLAGE, STAFF MEMBERS SPEAK WITH THE WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS WHO RUN THE WATER OR SOLAR BUSINESSES AND INTERVIEW THEM ABOUT SALES. THEY CHECK THE WATER LEVELS IN THE WATER TREATMENT CENTERS, AND THE NUMBER OF CELL PHONES CHARGING AT THE SOLAR BUSINESS AND VISIT BETWEEN 6-10 HOUSES IN EACH COMMUNITY TO CHECK TO SEE IF COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE STORING WATER CORRECTLY IN THEIR HOMES AND IF THEIR LANTERNS ARE WORKING CORRECTLY. ONCE A MONTH, THE STAFF MEMBERS TAKE WATER SAMPLES FROM EACH VILLAGE TO TEST IN THE LAB. THEY TEST FOR BOTH E.COLI AND TOTAL COLIFORM TO ENSURE THAT THE WATER SOLD AT THE SAHA WATER BUSINESS IS SAFE TO DRINK. STAFF MEMBERS USED TO REPORT TO SAHA GHANA COUNTRY DIRECTOR BRIANAN KIERNAN. SHAKUN IBRAHIM, RUNS ALL GHANA OPERATIONS. SHAK CHECKS IN WITH OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, KATE CINCOTTA ONCE A WEEK. ANOTHER GHANA TEAM MEMBER, WAHAB LAWAL, EMAILS KATE WEEKLY MONITORING REPORTS.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0GEOGRAPHIC EXPANSION - IN 2015, SAHA DECIDED TO EXPLORE THE OPTION OF EXPANDING OUR WORK TO A NEW COUNTRY. THE EXPANSION-RESEARCH EFFORTS WERE LEAD BY SAM REILLEY. IN THE SUMMER OF 2015, WE NARROWED OUR CHOICES DOWN TO PERU OR NICARAGUA, BASED ON A NUMBER OF CRITERIA INCLUDING NEED FOR CLEAN WATER AND ELECTRICITY IN RURAL COMMUNITIES, COST OF TRAVEL, ABILITY TO RUN A GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN EACH COUNTRY, AND SAFETY. IN AUGUST OF 2015, SAM AND KATE TRAVELED TO BOTH PERU AND NICARAGUA TO VISIT RURAL COMMUNITIES TO SEE THE REAL NEED FOR CLEAN WATER/ELECTRICITY AND TO BEGIN FORMING PARTNERSHIPS ON THE GROUND. AFTER THIS TRIP, IT WAS DECIDED THAT NICARAGUA WOULD BE THE BEST FIT FOR SAHA, AND ALL EXPANSION PLANS FROM THERE ON OUT FOCUSED ON NICARAGUA.
