“The form 990 is presented to the foundation's finance committee for review. Edits are incorporated and a final copy presented to the board of directors for review prior to submission.”
“On an annual basis, board members complete and submit a questionnaire to the board chair to disclose whether there are any conflicts. The board and the executive director will evaluate conflict disclosures and make other necessary inquiries to determine the extent and nature of any actual or potential conflict of interest and, if appropriate, investigate alternatives to the proposed transaction or arrangement. After disclosure of the potentially conflicting interest and all material facts, and after answering any questions, the interested person shall recuse himself or herself from deliberations and voting relating to the matter and shall refrain from attempting to influence other decision-makers relating to the matter. However, as a member of the board or committee, an interested director may be counted in determining the establishment of the quorum at a meeting relating to the matter.”
“On an annual basis, the foundation (either the full board or a compensation committee/executive committee) will evaluate the executive director on his/her performance, and ask for his/her input on matters of performance and compensation. The committee will obtain independent information to make a recommendation to the full board for compensation (salary and benefits) of the executive director (and other highly compensated employees or consultants) based on a review of the comparable data. The data may include the following: 1. Information obtained from the irs form 990 filings of similar organizations; 2. Salary and benefit compensation studies by independent sources; and/or 3. Written job offers for positions at organizations. To approve compensation of the executive director (and other highly compensated employees and consultants) the board must document how it reached its decisions, including the data on which it relied, in minutes of the meeting during which the compensation was approved.”

“The colon cancer challenge foundation (the foundation), is dedicated to a world without colorectal cancer(tm) and works toward this mission by increasing awareness about the importance of early screening, developing public/private partnerships to increase knowledge and crc screening rates, increasing awareness of crc risk factors and factors that may help prevent crc, including family/genetic history, providing funds for screening services to the underserved, and awarding research grants to sturdy genetic and epigenetic changes that will lead to new breakthroughs in the prevention and therapy of crc.”
“The foundation recognized this trend and has taken the lead on addressing the issue by organizing and hosting the nation's only summit focused on early age oncet colorectal cancer (eao crc). The eao crc summit is a groundbreaking program that provides survivors, loved ones, health care professonals and researchers from around the country the unique opportunity to advance their understanding of the rapidly increasing incidence of rectal and colon cancer among young adults under 50 years of age,in the u.s. And abroad,in a patient/provider collaborative setting. Leading clinicians and scientists report on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, genomics and lifestyle challenges of eao (or young adult) crc. The foundation takes pride in the fact that the program is powered by the eao crc patient community and their families. The summit is a full day of cutting edge medicine, research, commmunity building, conversation and action focused onaddressing young adult colorectal cancer. The foundation was fortunate to partner with michaels mission and the perlmutter cancer center at nyu langone medical center. The event was also generously supported by a grant from the colon cancer alliance. This support enabled the foundation to offer complimentary registration to all participants. The 2017 eao crc summit largely focused on facilitating multidisciplinary consensus regarding the priorities of eao-crc prevention, clinical care, quality of life and research moving forward. The agenda included such topics as: finding the ideal state of wellness; navigating the survivorship landscape; and improving outcomes for early age onset colorectal cancer. For the third year the foundation was able to engage a globally recognized faculty including eao crc survivors as well as clinicians, epidemiologists and researchers from leading cancer centers, advocacy organizations and research institutions from around the us. Our faculty represented institutions and organizations such as: cooper university health care, dan l. Duncan cancer center baylor college of medicine, inova schar cancer institute, kimmel urology mskcc ambulatory division, laura and isaac perlmutter cancer center, memorial sloan kettering cancer center, michaels mission, new york legal assistance group, state university of new york health sciences center, university of colorado school of medicine, upmc integrative oncology, the raymond foundation, the university of texas md anderson cancer center, and white plains hospital center for cancer care. Once again, the foundation collaborated with healtheo360 to offer the entire summit through a digital live feed. All slides and presentations are now available online for those who could not attend or reference and use by clinicians. As part of the foundations ongoing efforts focused on early age onset colorectal cancer, the foundation maintains close ties to summit faculty and supports ongoing research into the causes of eao crc and the most effective approach to improving earliest stage diagnosis. Through these collaborative efforts, the foundation has published multiple articles on the topic and presented these papers and/or abstracts at multiple conferences including the c5 summit (citywide colon cancer control coalition), an initiative of the new york city department of health and mental hygiene (nycdohmh), the nih family history symposium, the reusch center symposium, the health center network of new york, memorial sloan kettering advances in colorectal oncology, and the collaborative group of the americas on inherited colorectal cancer (cga). Other research areas the foundation also continues to support and recognize excellence in translational research focused on the molecular biology of colorectal cancer by providing colorectal cancer research scholar awards for the top- ranking abstracts submitted by trainees or junior faculty members attending national and international conferences. Awards provide funding to cover meeting, registration and travel e”
“Through its outreach events and advertising the foundation reaches nearly half a million americans each year. Whats 20 feet long 12 feet high, 10 feet wide, inflatable, educational and shaped like a colon? The rollin colon of course thanks to our supporters, the rollin colon continued its national tour in 2017 crisscrossing the country to educate thousands on colorectal cancer and the importance of early screening. Educational materials are translated into spanish and chinese allowing the foundation to provide culturally relevant educational materials to the many underserved and underinsured communities we visit. The foundations largest outreach event continues to be the new york colon cancer challenge. The foundation celebrated the 15th anniversary of the new york colon cancer challenge randalls island in new york city. The challenge is a unique opportunity for survivors and affected family members to honor loved ones they may have lost or to celebrate their own victory over colorectal cancer. Hundreds participated in the remembrance and prevention walk and run. In addition, members of the the foundation's community make their miles count in the fight against colorectal cancer by running either the new york city half or full marathon. Each member of our team pledges to make their miles count by raising awareness of the nations second leading cancer killer and funds to support our research efforts in the months leading up to their run. Public awareness - media outreach the foundation has worked tirelessly in the crc space for many years and has seen great progress made with regard to reducing the rates of incidence and mortality for those 50 and up. But the simple fact remains - 23 million americans are still not getting screened for colon cancer as recommended by the current national guidelines and rates are rapidly rising in those americans ages 20-49. Colorectal cancer still sits in the shadows behind other cancers that kill less americans - for example breast cancer. In short we came to realize that colorectal cancer has an identity issue. With that in mind the foundation reached out to experts in the corporate advertising community for their guidance on creating a public awareness campaign that would radically change the way americans talk about colorectal cancer and make a significant impact on the number of americans getting screened for the disease. Protect your butt was soft launched in the final quarter of 2016. The official launch of the campaign took place in march of 2017 with the worlds largest booty shake, held in central park, new york city. Despite mother natures rain on our parade and a modest turnout for the event we had over 300,000 pr and media impressions nationwide adding to the success of the campaign was the creation of the pyb theme song pyb protect your butt. The artist behind the pyb hit single is mk mark. The single can be found on nyc radio stations, itunes, amazon music etc https://www.amazon.com/pyb-protect-ya-butt-mark/dp/b06x9qglb7 during the early summer months of 2017 we launched the second phase of the campaign the largest butt dial ever we made over 700,000 butt dials or automated calls to americans age 35-45 in ten cities across the us. 275,000 people listened to the entire marketing message. 2017 ended on a high note for the foundation and the campaign. Ny jets running back bilal powell, who lost his friend at the age of 32 to colon cancer, dedicated his cleats for a cause to the foundation, the pyb campaign and to raising awareness of early age onset colorectal cancer. The cleats and bilals message reached thousands through coverage on espn, class act sports, cbs, fox sports, jets tv, twitter, facebook as well as 82,500 fans who were at the game during which bilal showcased colon cancer survivors on the field and his cleats during the game. We are thrilled to report that the protect your butt campaign reached over 1.3 million americans in its first year. Our goal is to run this campaign”

THIS INCLUDES OUTREACH EVENTS IN UNDERSERVED AND UNINSURED COMMUNITIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, SENIOR CENTERS ETC CONTINUED IN SCHEDULE O THROUGH ITS OUTREACH EVENTS AND ADVERTISING THE FOUNDATION REACHES NEARLY HALF A MILLION AMERICANS EACH YEAR.
