Shelter program service accomplishments - our goal is to continually improve operations at the shelter and provide effective services to the people and animals we serve. We have done a great deal to move forward with this. In addition to our shelter veterinarians, 18 veterinarians volunteered their services, doing surgeries and consulting on questionable animals. Surgeries/dentals are also done at the university of minnesota, a few local vet clinics and the minnesota school of business. Surgery recap for 2018: 2,020 spay and neuter surgeries, 24 hernia repairs, 78 dentals, 11 tumor removals, 6 tail amputations, 3 fho repairs, 7 eye removals, 7 wound closures, 4 suture repairs, 1 entropian eyelid repair, 1 bladder stone removal. Total intakes for 2018 was 3,267. Total adoptions for 2018 was 3,123, a placement rate of 95.6%. We have a goal of no euthanasia of treatable rehabilitable animals and contineu with our effort to reduce our euthanasia rate. Xxx animals were euthernized in 2018, as compared with 125 in 2017, 126 in 2016, 236 in 2015, and 543 in 2014. Our foster care program is critical ro our life saving efforts. Foster homes filled the gap between the time an animal is brought to the society and the time they are adopted. 1,204 animals went through our foster care program in 2018. In it's first full year, book buddies spent 218 hours volunteering their time to rest to shelter animals. Not only does the program help kids improve their reading skills and confidence with reading out loud, it does wonders to soothe the shelter pets. A win-win

Education - in an effort to increase the community's awareness of animals welfare and humane education tchs has reached out in a variety of ways: visit senior care center/assisted living facilities. Visited 56 in 2018. Give tours of the shlter, explaining what tchs does and why there is a need for a shelter in st. Cloud. Gave 24 shelter tours in 2018. Sent animlas to 50 offsite adoptions events in 2018. Tchs hosts birthday parties. The participants come to the shelter, receive a tour, give dog baths, and interact with animals. Instead of giving the birthday boy/girl presents, the participants bring something to donate to the shelter. 30 birthday parties hosted in 2018. Keep the community up-to-date on animal welfare related news and legislation via newsletters, facebook and emails. Visita area schools, instructing children how to be kind to animals as well as safe around them. Tchs is a resource in our community for people having questions about anything animal related. We answer numerous phone calls daily, helping people resolve whatever problems they are having with an animal. Members of newcomeres, a welcome wagon type business. Through them we distribute flyters to people moving in the area or purchasing a new home.
