Moloka`i community service council, inc. (mcsc) was incorporated in 1974 under the laws of the state of hawaii as a nonprofit corporation. Mcsc was organized to administer, sponsor, and provide educational, charitable, and community-development programs on the island of moloka`i. In addition, mcsc qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section l70(b) (l)(a)(vi) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(2). Accordingly, qualifying contributions to mcsc are tax deductible.
To engage in educational, charitable and community development activities that benefit the molokai community.

“The conflict of interest policy applies to any interested persons (persons who are in a position to exercise substantial influence over the organization at any time during the five-year period ending on the date of the transaction their family members and the entities in which they own more than 35% of the voting power of the entity). The interested person has a duty to disclose potential conflicts and all directors and officers are required to sign a statement on an annual basis that affirms they received, read, understand, and agreed to comply with the conflict of interest policy. Review of potential conflict of interests are performed by the board of directors or a committee of the board of directors. Interested persons may not participate in the discussion or voting on the potential conflicts.”
“The compensation for the executive director currently filled by karen holt is determined by the board of directors, which is based on performance measures as well as through the comparison of market wages for similar positions in other organizations. Any increase/decrease of the executive director's salary is at the discretion of the board of directors. ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, THE SHELTER PROVIDES AN AVERAGE OF 800 BED DAYS FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE FLED THEIR HOMES DUE TO VIOLENCE. WOMEN COME TO THE SHELTER IN MANY WAYS: WITH POLICE ESCORTS, HIDING IN A FRIEND'S CAR, AND SOMETIMES EVEN ON FOOT WITH THEIR CHILDREN, RUNNING TO ESCAPE A PHYSICALLY ABUSIVE PARTNER. ONCE THEY REACH THE SHELTER, THEY RECEIVE A SAFE PLACE TO SLEEP, MEALS, COUNSELING, AND 24-HOUR PROTECTION UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYES OF HIGHLY TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED STAFF. HALE HO'OMALU HELPS VICTIMS OBTAIN TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDERS (TRO'S) AGAINST BATTERERS. A STAFF ADVOCATE PREPARES THE LEGAL PAPERWORK NECESSARY TO REQUEST A TRO AND PROCESS THE REQUEST THROUGH FAMILY COURT. IF THE TRO IS GRANTED, THE ADVOCATE ACCOMPANIES THE VICTIM TO SUBSEQUENT COURT HEARINGS AND HELPS THE CLIENT WITH ANY ADDITIONAL COURT PAPERWORK. IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, HALE HO'OMALU HAS ALSO ESTABLISHED INTERVENTION SERVICES FOR PERPETRATORS THROUGH ITS ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE (ATV) PROGRAM.
