Activity 2

The commodity supplemental food program (csfp) is one of the foundational services provided by second harvest heartland, placing food directly where it's needed most, with non-nursing mothers and seniors. Income eligible clients are able to register for the supplemental food program directly through second harvest heartland, and pick up their monthly box of nutritionally balanced foods via a drive-thru service window at the food bank's maplewood headquarters. The cfsp program averaged 251,000 pounds of food distribution per month, for a yearly total of 3,024,000 pounds in fy2010. See schedule o for additional program service description.

Activity 3

Community outreach efforts beyond the food bank engage in hunger-relief efforts that do not involve the distribution of food. Second harvest heartland's staff engaged in work in four areas with these results: summer food service program (sfsp) facilitated the provision of 750,000 meals to low-income children statewide through mini-grant support and outreach materials. The supplemental nutrition assistance program (snap) outreach efforts engage with 10,500 people, helping them screen for and enroll in the program to obtain cash benefits for grocery purchase.
