Mission and Program Overview

Mission

180 degrees helps youth, families, and adults overcome barriers so that they can transform their lives and contribute to building healthy, multicultural communities.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Adult services: residentialsince 1973, 180 degrees, inc. Has served men re-entering communities from correctional facilities in our residential half-way house program. Each year over 200 men walk through the doors, on their way to a fresh start in the community. Not all of them succeed, but those who do are re-entering their communities with steady employment, sobriety and a stable place to live. 180 degrees, inc.'s goal is to offer accountability, support and opportunity to residents. The transition from a secure locked facility often proves the most difficult time for offenders. By holding offenders accountable while helping create opportunities, 180 degrees, inc. Helps ensure public safety.1. Launched parenting groups for fathers. 2. Introduced a money management course. 3. Solidified partnership with pathways, who provides one on one case management to residents with mental illness.4. Continuing wednesday men's group.5. Offered friday night film and justice nights.6. Partnered with americorps, creating two service positions at the half way house, expanding sonic hours and capabilities.7. Maintained partnership with macalester college, creating internship opportunities for direct service and increasing personal re-entry assistance to residents on site.sonic180 degrees, inc.'s sonic program provides services to individuals re-entering the community from correctional facilities and other residents from the community facing barriers to employment and housing as a result of a criminal conviction. In the last twenty years minnesota's penal population has increased four-fold. The expansion of the penal population has resulted in increasingly large numbers of individuals returning to communities with limited job skills and employment history. The vast majority of these ex-offenders are returning to communities least equipped to absorb this growing population.1. 180 degrees, inc.'s sonic program provides job and housing assistance for approximately two-hundred individuals who have a criminal record each year.non-residential alternative program (nap)nap is a non-residential program for males and females on parole or probation. The purpose of nap is to provide a short-term community alternative to residential placement or revocation for clients under community correctional supervision. Nap provides an additional layer of supervision, structure, and monitoring for clients who are experiencing difficulties in the community, but whose circumstances do not warrant a long term, costly correctional response. Nap staff provide daily case management and accountability. Nap case managers help clients with employment and sobriety through community referrals and individualized support. Nap staff offer face-to-face day reporting contacts, employment assistance through referral, job leads, mock interviews, and employment retention support, employment verification and monitoring of attendance, community resource referrals, random ua's and ba's, and curfew monitoring.
Activity 3
Foster care and group homessince 2011, 180 degrees, inc. Has served juveniles (ages 10-18) through residential facilities located in st. Cloud, rochester and albert lea. In 2012, we fully integrated this program into the organization and coordinated programing at these sites with the rest of the organization. Juveniles in these programs come to 180 degrees with complex behavioral, mental health, and educational needs. This program provides an intensive, integrated intervention that allows these youth to be successful in their families and communities. Staff members develop individualized treatment plans, set daily goals and monitor a child's progress. They also provide one-on-one time and individualized assistance. Frequent communication with families, workers and other participants in the resident's treatment team help insure a coordination of services and effective transitional planning. 180 degrees, inc. Also offers professional foster care though our network of foster homes.
