CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND AIDES UTILIZE CREATIVE CURRICULUM AND TEACHING STRATEGIES GOLD FOR EARLY EDUCATION ASSESSMENT TOOLS TO ENSURE CHILDREN ARE MEETING AGE-APPROPRIATE MILESTONES. CHILDREN ARE ALSO SCREENED USING AGES AND STAGES QUESTIONNAIRE TO FACILITATE APPROPRIATE EARLY INTERVENTION AND BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT. YW EARLY EDUCATION CENTER IS A KEYSTONE STARS 4 FACILITY. OUT OF SCHOOL TIME, BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT FOR 60 CHILDREN K-6, INCLUDES HOMEWORK HELP AND TUTORING, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, CREATIVE EXPRESSION, AND STEM EXPLORATION. AS PRIMARILY AN ACADEMIC-FOCUSED AFTER-SCHOOL CARE, STUDENTS IMPROVE ACADEMIC SKILLS THROUGH HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING TO ENHANCE READING AND MATH SKILLS, AND WORKING THROUGH SCIENCE PROJECTS. THE PROGRAM ESTABLISHES A ROUTINE FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS, PROVIDES TIME AND MATERIALS FOR SILENT, SUSTAINED READING, SUPPORTS POSITIVE LEARNING OUTCOMES, AND DELIVERS A SAFE AND STRUCTURED ENVIORNMENT FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN THE TIME SCHOOL ENDS AND WHEN PARENTS ARE FINISHED WITH THEIR WORK DAY. YWCAMPADVENTURES, A FULL-TIME DAY CAMP OFFERED TO CHILDREN AGES 4-12, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN TO SPEND THEIR SUMMER DAYS EXPLORING, CREATING, AND LEARNING. CAMPERS SPEND TIME OUTDOORS, HIKING AND LEARNING ABOUT THE NATURAL ENVIORNMENT AND THEIR ROLE IN IT, AND ENJOYING BOTH INSTRUCTIONAL AND FREE TIME IN THE POOL. APPROXIMATELY 75% OF FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN IN THE YWCA'S EARLY EDUCATION AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME (OST) RECEIVE STATE SUBSIDY TO SUPPORT INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR FAMILIES TO WORK AND RECEIVE QUALITY CHILDCARE. THE YWCA IS NOW PREPARING ALL MEALS FOR THE CHILDREN IN THE EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM, SERVING OVER 3.400 MEALS DURING THE YEAR TO THE CHILDREN. BY SWITCHING TO PREPARING OUR OWN MEALS, WE CAN USE MORE FRESH INGREDIENTS EACH WEEK, BUY AND SHOP LOCAL AND USE HIGHER QUALITY PROTEINS WITH LESS FILLERS. OTHER BENEFITS TO OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IS THAT SOME MILK, EGSS AND OTHER FRESH FOOD IN SURPLUS ARE OFFERED TO FAMILIES. OUR GOAL IS TO BEGIN ADDING INFORMATIVE INFORMATION REGARDING HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS AND SIMPLE RECIPES TO NEWSLETTERS EACH MONTH AND ASK FOR MENU INPUT THROUGH SURVEYS.

YW'S EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER PREPARES ADULTS FOR THE WORKPLACE BY OFFERING JOB SEARCH ASSISTANCE, CREDENTIAL TRAINING, AND FREE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY PREPARATION AND TESTING. FOR ADULTS WHO HAVE LEFT HIGH SCHOOL, THE PENNSYLVANIA COMMONWEALTH SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA INCREASES THEIR CHANCES OF EARNING A LIVING WAGE IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES; THEY WILL ALSO QUALIFY FOR CERTIFICATE AND CREDENTIAL PROGRAMS. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES HELP NEWLY ARRIVED IMMIGRANTS IMPROVE READING, WRITING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING IN ENGLISH, WHICH HELPS THEM OBTAIN JOBS OR CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION SO THEY MAY WORK IN THEIR CHOSEN PROFESSION IN THE UNITED STATES. STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVE HELP GAINING U.S. CITIZENSHIP. THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER IMPROVED OUTCOMES FOR ADULT BASIC EDUCATION BY SHIFTING TO A CLOSED ENROLLMENT MODEL IN 2017, ENROLLING NEW STUDENTS EVERY 12 WEEKS AND GROUPING THEM ACCORDING TO SKILL LEVEL WHENEVER POSSIBLE. THIS MORE EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT MODEL PROVIDES STRUCTURE FOR THE STUDENTS AND INSTRUCTORS. INSTRUCTORS FOUND THE STUDENTS TO BE MORE INVESTED IN THEIR EDUCATION, AND AS A RESULT WERE ABLE TO REACH THEIR GOALS MORE QUICKLY. NEW CLASSROOM LOCATIONS IN 2017 HELPED REDUCE BARRIERS TO CLASS ATTENDANCE AND EXPAND PROGRAMMING TO SERVE MORE ADULT LEARNERS. HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CLASSES OPENED AT YW'S 300 KING ST. OFFICE. THE KING STREET CLASSROOM OPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2017, MEETING A DEMAND FOR A CENTRAL POTTSTOWN LOCATION, AS WELL AS MEETING INCREASED ENROLLMENT DEMAND. IN 2017, HEALTHY CHOICES GUIDED GIRLS IN LEARNING LEADERSHIP SKILLS, ESTABLISHING HEALTH AND WELLNESS HABITS, AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS AND ADULTS; EXPANDED TO SERVE MORE GIRLS IN MORE LOCATIONS; BROUGHT 80 GIRLS TOGETHER FOR A ONE-DAY ALL-GIRL HEALTH AND WELLNESS SUMMIT; AND CONVENED THE YOU GROW, GIRL! SUMMER CAMP. HEALTHY CHOICES FOR GIRLS DEMONSTRATED POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF 400 GIRLS EACH YEAR, HELPING THEM BUILD THE CONFIDENCE, SELF-ESTEEM, AND WELL-BEING TO ACHIEVE IN PEER, FAMILY AND SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS, IN ACADEMICS, AND IN FUTURE EDUCATIONAL AND CAREER PURSUITS. YW CHAMPS IS A MULTI-FACETED HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM. SUPPORTED BY PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, IT INTRODUCES FITNESS AND NUTRITION TO PRESCHOOL CHILDREN, AND CONTINUES EXPLORING HEALTH LIFESTYLES WITH SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. YW CHAMPS STRIVES TO REDUCE HEALTH RISK FACTORS IN YOUNG CHILDREN BY OFFERING MOVEMENT, STRESS REDUCTION, AND NUTRITION ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING THAT CAN EASILY BE REPLICATED AT HOME, AND BY OFFERING, COOKING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION TO FAMILIES, FOCUSING ON MAKING HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES WHILE STAYING ON A TIGHT BUDGET. FAMILY COOKING MATTERS IS A NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN TO EXPLORE HEALTHY MEAL PREPRATION TOGETHER IN THE YW COMMUNITY KITCHEN. YWCA TRI-COUNTY AREA'S MISSION-BASED ADVOCACY PROGRAMMING RAISES AWARENESS, OFFERS ISSUE EDUCATION, AND BUILDS SOCIAL CAPITAL AROUND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT, RACIAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE AND INEQUITIES, AND SAFE AND HEALTHY COMMUNITIES.
