| KidSpirit celebrated its ninth year in print in 2016, and its network of young editors has grown to include 60 teenagers on 9 Editorial Boards in New York, Australia, China, Massachusetts, India, New Zealand, and Pakistan. To showcase the power and depth of this growing community of young voices, the organization released a redesigned, state-of-the-art web platform designed by Marquee Studios. The site offers a uniquely modern, dynamic platform for readers to engage with articles, poetry, and artwork created and curated by teens. New features include a section called Explore, with a stunning gallery of art created by teens; a Global Beat page, where young people around the world share a window into their communities; and KidSpirit Shorts, a collection of videos. The site also features a beautiful, easy-to-navigate Magazine section that will include all of KidSpirits issues from its first decade; an engaging new Community section; and an interactive portal to guide teen writers and artists through the process of submitting their own work.KidSpirits community received unprecedented recognition this year. The Religion News Association (RNA), the only professional association for journalists who cover religion, awarded KidSpirit its top magazine honor, first place in Magazine Overall Excellence. The magazines young writers and artists were honored alongside major media outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post and CNN. Contest judges said their work shows that depth of intellect is not defined by age. This year, KidSpirit received a grant from the Collegiate Church Corporation for operating support as well as to continue expanding its Satellite Ed Boards in Pakistan. The initiative in Pakistan is growing due to KidSpirits partnership with Intersections International, a multi-cultural, multi-faith, global initiative committed to forging justice, reconciliation, and peace. UPIC, a program of Intersections dedicated to improving relations between the United States and Pakistan, sent a consortium of visitors to Pakistan in the winter of 2016, and met with KidSpirit editors in a unique opportunity for cultural exchange. KidSpirit also launched a new online editorial workshop program, allowing editors from all over the world to come together through video conferencing to work collaboratively on articles and poetry about meaningful topics. The program harnesses the power of new media to enable kids to exchange ideas with peers from diverse locations and backgrounds, introducing them to viewpoints they otherwise would never be exposed to.Over 20 contributors were selected by their peers on Editorial Boards to receive KidSpirit Awards this year. Winners were eligible to apply for micro-grants to celebrate the accomplishment in their communities. Events were held in North Carolina, Michigan, Mumbai, Lahore, and Karachi. Each party was an opportunity for award recipients to share their writing and artwork with family and friends. To further highlight the work of its young contributors, in 2016 KidSpirit initiated a partnership with Spirituality & Practice, a platform that creates and curates meaningful content for hundreds of thousands of readers. In addition to being republished by the Huffington Post, KidSpirit articles and artwork are now syndicated in a Spirituality & Practice blog called KidSpirit Youth Voices. | $123,981 | - |
