“Editorial board liaisons who coordinate with staff to lead kidspirit's youth editorial boards.”
“Kidspirit celebrated its 14th year in print in 2021, and its network of young editors grew by 30% to include about 175 teenagers on 20 editorial boards in new york, california, kentucky, navajo land, north carolina, ohio, texas, tennessee, australia, bosnia and herzegovina, china, haiti, india, jordan, nepal, pakistan, paraguay, taiwan, the u.k., and ukraine. Through their writing, art, video, and conversations, youth substantively engaged with the 2021 themes: life and death, connection and isolation, the media that raised us, and love. Kidspirit's online workshops continued to play a vital role in supporting teens through the pandemic. By offering three unique workshop experiences (kidspirit connect, editing workshops, and the belonging project), kidspirit provided youth around the world opportunities for connection during a challenging time. Twenty-two editors were selected by their peers to receive kidspirit awards this past year. Their artwork, articles, and poetry were featured in the print volume the best of kidspirit, volume viii, which also included additional pieces that most reflect kidspirit's mission. Kidspirit celebrated its community at the 2021 kidspirit benefit: emerging together, a virtual event to benefit kidspirit. The event featured conversations with kidspirit's global youth and nobel peace laureate and kidspirit 2021 perspectives award winner, leymah gbowee. Kidspirit's community of friends and supporters tuned into the event from all over the world. The organization also held its third annual global summit. During the full-day event, kidspirit youth gathered virtually for a panel featuring two kidspirit editors who engaged with two accomplished adults: alex kronemer, a filmmaker and co-founder and executive producer of unity productions foundation, and emthital mahmoud, world champion slam poet and unhcr goodwill ambassador. The panel was moderated by lewis dabney, executive director of key bridge foundation. Afterwards, youth engaged in thoughtful discussion in large and small groups on how big questions drive the creative process. Kidspirit continues to be syndicated on spirituality & practice, a platform that creates and curates meaningful content for hundreds of thousands of readers, on the blog kidspirit youth voices. Kidspirit began a partnership with unity productions foundation, in conjunction with their unfold your own myth program, designed to help young people overcome hardship and trauma through creative expression. Kidspirit will publish poetry created during the program on its website and in a special print book. In 2021, kidspirit received general operating grants from the marc haas foundation and m&t bank charitable foundation, growing its philanthropic foundation and corporate support. Finally, kidspirit was awarded consultative status with the united nations economic and social council (ecosoc), and formal association with the un department of global communications, providing a major new outlet for its international community.”
