IRS990/Description0MUSEUM OF ART - IN THE 2012 FISCAL YEAR THE MUSEUM OF ART EXPANDED ITS EXHIBITION PROGRAM, EXCEEDED ITS VISITATION GOALS, AND GAINED NEW MEMBERS. EIGHT SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS, EACH ACCOMPANIED BY A ROSTER OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS, WERE OFFERED IN ADDITION TO REINSTALLATIONS OF THE PERMANENT COLLECTION. ANNUAL ATTENDANCE WAS 90,892, WHICH WAS UP APPROXIMATELY 35% FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THE INCREASE IS, IN PART, DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF "WEDDED PERFECTION: 200 YEARS OF WEDDING DRESSES" (JUNE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011) AND "ANSEL ADAMS: MASTERWORKS FROM THE TURTLE BAY EXPLORATION PARK" (SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER 2011).THROUGH A BALANCED EXHIBIT PROGRAM, MWPAI REACHES A BROAD AUDIENCE. WORKING DIRECTLY WITH OUR REFUGEE COMMUNITY, WE PRESENTED "GLOBAL TRADITIONS," AN EXHIBIT OF ETHNIC WEDDING ATTIRE THAT PARALLELED "WEDDED PERFECTION." IN CONJUNCTION WITH "WEDDED PERFECTION," THE MUSEUM ALSO OFFERED THE PERMANENT COLLECTION SHOW "AMERICAN COUPLES: HOW DO WE LOOK?" WHICH EXAMINED THE SYMBOLISM AND MEANING IN PORTRAITS OF MARRIED COUPLES. IN MARCH 2012 "LITGRAPHIC: THE WORLD OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL" BROUGHT IN AN UNDER-30 CROWD. "ENHANCING A LEGACY," A CELEBRATION OF THE INSTITUTE'S 75TH ANNIVERSARY, OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SOLICIT COMMEMORATIVE GIFTS OF ART AND TO SHOWCASE ADDITIONS TO THE PERMANENT COLLECTION. THE MUSEUM CONTINUED TO REACH DIVERSE AUDIENCES BY OFFERING FREE EXHIBIT TOURS TO ENGLISH-AS-A-SECOND-LANGUAGE CLASSES AND OUR POPULAR ARTREACH SUMMER PROGRAM FOR INNER-CITY YOUTHS. INCREASED MARKETING IN OUR TRI-COUNTY AREA HELPED TO EXPAND OUR AUDIENCE IN GENERAL.
