| 2016 Accomplishments:We are very proud of our accomplishments in 2016. We rescued and adopted out a total of 130 animals: 113 dogs, 16 cats and 1 domestic rabbit. All were spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Many of our dogs had expensive dental needs and/or special orthopedic surgeries in addition to the basics to make them ready for their forever homes. The breakdown of our total amount adopted in 2016 is as follows. We saved a total of 39 dogs on their last day from various city and county shelters. We took in 37 owner surrendered dogs thus preventing them from entering the shelter system. These dogs were surrendered to us for various reasons, such as housing relocations, job layoffs, and straight up financial difficulties. Some of these families lost their homes and could not even afford basic vet care for their dogs. We took in 41 stray dogs as well as 2 dogs whose owners died. We took in 3 dogs from Manhattan Beach Animal Control. We took in 9 dogs from Washington Boulevard Animal Hospital who were surrendered due to the owner not able afford medical care and chose euthanasia as a solution. Our volunteer Emily, who is an RVT, has been able to offer the public the choice of rescue placement instead of euthanasia on many occasions. In addition to all of this, Animals Rule Rescue was able to provide 9 low income/homeless families with pet food and Vet assistance throughout the year. We helped 6 families with spay/neuter of their personal pets thus helping to keep them in their current homes. In April 2016 we attended the Americas Family Pet Expo at the Orange County Fairgrounds in which we adopted out 5 dogs into new forever homes and raised $3,382 to help pay for our vet bills and specialty surgeries. In October 2016 we attended the Manhattan Beach Fire Department's Hometown Fair where we adopted out 3 dogs into good forever homes and raised $2,148 to help pay for our vet bills. At each of these adoption events our volunteers interacted with the public and provided educational material on the importance of spay/neuter, yearly vaccines, and microchipping. We placed several 'special needs' animals this year that we are quite proud of. For the first time ever we took in 2 dogs who lived a miserable life at the end of a chain in an auto repair yard. One was a German Shepherd, named Lokie, who was exactly 1 year old and had lived his life on a chain end ever since he was 2 months old. We sent Lokie away to boot camp at K-9 Companions and they completely transformed him into a perfectly trained dog. He was adopted soon after. The other dog living on this property, a smaller Poodle, we trained and housebroke and adopted out. We received an American Bulldog from Washington Boulevard Animal Hospital that was brought in to be euthanized due to her tail growing into her behind instead of out from her behind and they could not afford the surgery and felt she was suffering. She was signed over to rescue, she got her tail amputated and recovered nicely and was adopted to a wonderful family visiting from Arizona. We accomplished all of this while holding down jobs, marriages, and mortgages of our own. We are dedicated to the well being of our rescue dogs and we love each and every one who passes through our rescue on their way to forever homes. Please help us rescue even more dogs this year in 2017 by donating to our cause. It's time to give back and help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.
