| 2020 Accomplishments:2020 was a year like no other and COVID-19 brought about an all-new way to rescue and adopt animals! Animal shelters and veterinary hospitals closed down immediately starting in March of 2020. After the mandated stay at home order was lifted, the public rushed to adopt dogs. As of December, 2020 the animal shelters were still closed and allowed people in by appointment only. These circumstances made it very hard for rescue groups to enter the animal shelter system and remove at-risk dogs. Our rescue/adoption numbers this year are significantly lower than years past, however we feel that under the COVID-19 circumstances, we did an outstanding job! This year we adopted 69 dogs during the pandemic. The breakdown of animals is as follows: 63 dogs, 5 cats and 1 rabbit. All 63 dogs and 5 cats were spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. We had to get creative in our home checks and meet-and-greets. Through the internet, cell phone texting, videos and face time we made it work. Many of our dogs had expensive dental procedures and/or special orthopedic surgeries, in addition to the basics, to make them ready for their forever homes. We spent upwards of $15,000 on 20 dogs at an average of at least $800.00 each for dental cleaning and some with extractions. The breakdown of our total amount of dogs adopted in 2020 is as follows: we saved a total of 17 dogs on their last day at our city and county animal shelters. We took in 28 owner-surrendered dogs thus preventing them from entering the animal shelter system. These dogs were surrendered to us for various reasons such as: housing relocations, layoffs, unemployment and straight-up financial difficulties related to the pandemic. Some of these families lost their homes and could not afford the most basic veterinary care for their dogs. We also took in 20 stray dogs and 4 stray cats whose owners we were unable to locate. In addition to all of this, Animals Rule Placement Foundation was able to assist 14 low-income/homeless families with pet food and veterinary assistance throughout the year.Something new we started when the stay-at-home order lifted during the pandemic was partnering with The Amazing Small Animal Clinic's mobile spay/neuter van. We are providing them a place twice a month to perform spay/neuters, vaccinations, microchipping and dental care for both cats and dogs at a reduced rate for low-income families. We accomplished all of this while struggling through the pandemic ourselves, holding down jobs of our own, marriages and mortgages. It was a crazy and difficult year. We continue to be dedicated to the wellbeing of our rescue dogs and we love each and every one who passes through our doors on their way to forever homes. Please help us give back and make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.
