| 2014 Accomplishments: We are very proud of our accomplishments in 2014. We rescued and adopted out a total of 123 animals as follows: 109 dogs, 7 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 2 Chinchillas and 3 special-needs birds. All 109 dogs and 7 cats were spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Many of our dogs had dental and/or special surgeries in addition to the basics to make them ready for their forever homes. The breakdown of our total amount adopted in 2014 is as follows: rescued a total of 23 dogs on their last day from various city and county shelters and took in 49 owner surrendered dogs, thus preventing them from entering the shelter system. These dogs were surrendered to us for various reasons such as housing relocations, the decreased economy, job layoffs, a dwindling housing market and straight up financial difficulties. Some of these families lost their homes in short sales and could not even afford basic vet care for their dogs. We took in 46 stray dogs as well as 1 dog left to die inside of an abandoned house. We took in 3 dogs from hoarders, 1 dog that was completely blind and 4 dogs who were being illegally sold at a local swap meet. This is the second year that we have participated in Downtown Dog Rescue's shelter intervention program where we took in 4 dogs being turned in at the front of the South LA Animal Shelter. Additionally Animals Rule Rescue was able to assist 7 low income/homeless families with pet food and Vet assistance throughout the year. We helped 4 families with spay/neuter of their personal pets thus helping to keep them in their current homes. In April 2014 we attended the Americas Family Pet Expo at the Orange County Fairgrounds at which we adopted 4 dogs into new homes. In October 2014 we attended the Manhattan Beach Fire Department's Hometown Fair where we adopted 8 dogs into good homes. At each of these adoption events our volunteers interacted with the public and provided educational materials on the importance of spay/neuter, yearly vaccines and microchipping. We placed several "special needs" animals this year that we are quite proud of. For the first time ever, we adopted out 3 Conjures (birds) with various disabilities. One was completely blind, another missing a leg and the third had a deformed foot and tail. Another dog we received this year from a hoarding situation was a completely blind Cocker Spaniel. A senior Yorkshire Terrier came to us with Grade 4 Luxating Patellas which rendered her unable to walk for the last several years of her life. She received bilateral luxating patella surgery and, after six weeks of rehabilitation, is now running around, playing and living a completely normal life.We accomplished all of these things while holding down jobs of our own, marriages, and mortgages. We are dedicated to the well being of our rescued dogs and we love each and every one who passes through our rescue on their way to forever homes. Please help us rescue even more dogs this year in 2015 by donating to our cause. It's time to give back and help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.Don't Buy, Don't Breed, Adopt!Thank you,Animals Rule Rescue Volunteers: Stephanie, Shannon, Emily, Jen, Diane and Vickie | $83,855 | - |
