“Windustry's mission is to promote sustainable energy solutions and empower communities to develop and own clean energy assets. As an independent voice and resource acting in support of communities, we work - through education, outreach, and advocacy - to advance broad community commitment to renewable energy.”
“Windustry 2020 accomplishments the windustry.org website continues to deliver information to over 250,000 unique visitors annually with an average of 1,000 web visits daily. Windustry has a robust set of resources on its popular website which we are transitioning to include more on other renewable energy technologies that include solar, storage and other technologies. Highlights of our work in 2020 in the year of the covid-19 pandemic, windustry staff stayed healthy and adjusted in the best way we could. Windustry continued to grow the opportunities for more diverse participation from groups that have not traditionally been a part of the renewable energy workforce. We worked primarily on an initiative to help launch a new native-led nonprofit, native sun community power development. This work continues our longstanding outreach at the crossroads of rural communities and energy. In summary, in 2019, windustry spent a great deal of time working with robert blake, to launch the new non-profit, native sun community power development. In may of 2020 native sun received it's irs 501c3 letter of determination. Windustry's and native sun's missions are complimentary and windustry see's that this can be a national model for more inclusive renewable energy workforce development. Also, native sun would have a k-12 stem and steam education piece that would include native culture and language integrated in with the math and sciences. Windustry has been contracting to write proposals and develop programs related to workforce development for sustainable solutions which include solar, wind, storage and energy efficiency. Windustry participated on the migizi green jobs pathways committee in minneapolis. This was held on video calls. Renewable energy industry windustry has stayed connected to the distributed wind energy association and their policy making efforts on phone calls and zoom calls. Most renewable energy industry conferences were held online or cancelled outright. Windustry participated in several online events and used the video opportunity in other activities, windustry continued to be an active participant on a workgroup to remove the barriers for renewable energy on closed landfills in minnesota. This is an ongoing effort with the workgroup comprised of state and federal agencies and other non-profits. Cameran bailey, of the minnesota metro council is the leader and convener of the workgroup. Education and outreach our education and outreach efforts were discontinued during most of the covid shut down. The mn state fair did not happen in 2020. Other venues were not organized to fill in the gaps during the covid shutdown.”
