“Windustry 2019 accomplishments: the windustry.org website continues to deliver information to over 250,000 unique visitors annually with an average of 1,000 web visits daily. Windustry has a robust set of resources on its popular website which we are transitioning to include more on other renewable energy technologies that include solar, storage and other technologies. Highlights of our work in 2019: windustry's work is transitioning to grow the opportunities for more diverse participation from groups that have not traditionally been a part of the renewable energy workforce. We have begun to work with native american communities along with continuing our longstanding outreach at the crossroads of agriculture and energy. We have been meeting with migizi's workgroup on the green jobs pathways in minneapolis. Windustry spent a great deal of time working with robert blake and to launch a new non-profit, native sun community power development. With the help of an attorney, we filed papers for establishing the new organization with the us irs. This is a big deal because there are very few independent native-led non-profits. Windustry's and native sun's missions are complimentary and windustry see's that this can be a national model for more inclusive renewable energy workforce development. Also, native sun would have a k-12 stem and steam education piece for native american children that would include culture and language. Industry: windustry presented the 9th annual community wind and sustainable energy awards at the dwea conference in washington dc in february. The awards and awardees for 2019 are as follows: o windustry and its board of directors along with a peer group of professionals who work in community wind & sustainable energy were pleased to present the 2019 distinguished service in community wind award to mike bergey, president, bergey wind power in norman, oklahoma. O the community wind & sustainable energy innovator 2019 (for work over the past 2-3 years) was awarded to padma kasthurirangan. She is an engineer and partner at buffalo renewables in new york. O the groundbreaking community wind & sustainable energy project 2019 was presented to david benson of bigelow, mn and a founding board member of the community wind south project in south west mn in other activities, windustry continued to be an active participant on a workgroup to remove the barriers for renewable energy on closed landfills in minnesota. This is an ongoing effort with the workgroup comprised of state and federal agencies and other non-profits. Cameran bailey, of the minnesota metro council is the leader and convener of the workgroup. Education and outreach: highlights for 2019 included windustry's annual wind energy center in the ecoexperience at the 2019 minnesota state fair. The wind energy center is an interactive, museum-quality display within the eco experience at the minnesota state fair, in partnership with the minnesota pollution control agency. Developed and produced by windustry and partners, it teaches hundreds of thousands of visitors each year about our great wind resource and how wind energy can provide both environmental and economic benefits to minnesotans. 2019 is the 14th year of the wind energy center, inspiring visitors to actively support and participate in small, midsize, and large wind energy development in minnesota. Windustry produced several new displays and activities in 2019 with paul bunyan as a theme for the ecoexperience building. We had a new interactive piece where visitors could imagine what paul bunyan would do for the environment. Since he is a big guy, we invited people to think big.
