Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Our mission is to lead positive systemic change that strengthens Los Angeles communities. We envision a future where all Angelinos have the opportunity to contribute to the productivity, health and well-being of our region, and we believe that our common fate will be determined by how successfully we improve the quality of life for all of our residents.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Civic engagement: the vision of ccf is safe, thriving and diverse communities for all angelenos by creating a sense of common purpose and destiny. Because grant dollars alone are not enough to address complex regional issues, ccf plays a leading role in partnerships that motivate and empower diverse groups of local residents to participate in the civic life of their communities. Initiatives in 2010-2011 included: * bell "meet the candidates": a collaboration by ccf with a member of the california state assembly, the national association of latino elected and appointed officials, and univision kmex 34 to provide a fair and open means for eligible voters and residents in the city of bell to meet and hear from all candidates in the 2011 city council election. * el monte community building initiative: a 10-year commitment to engage residents of the city of el monte in determining and developing solutions to ensure that children and youth grow up healthier and better prepared for college and a career. * immigrant integration initiative: a multi-year effort to help new and recent arrivals in los angeles become english proficient, access social services, enjoy quality of life and contribute to our society and local economy. * lausd parent engagement taskforce - a three-month taskforce of parents, educators, school administrators and community leaders, chaired and supported by ccf, to develop a blueprint and tools to encourage and support greater parental involvement in k-12 public education in los angeles county. * los angeles preschool advocacy initiative: a multi-year effort to improve access to high quality preschool education for historically underserved communities.
Activity 3
Donor serviced funds: ccf manages more than 1,500 charitable funds entrusted to it by individuals, families, companies and organizations. Almost all funds are donor serviced some have active donors and others are deceased, both of whom we continue to serve. Ccf invests these assets and uses their earnings to make grants that benefit communities throughout los angeles and elsewhere. In 2010-2011, ccf distributed $66 million in grants from donor advised funds. Donors also contributed to special funds at ccf from which over $2 million in grants were made: * pass it along fund: provided grants of $100 to $5,000 to clients of nonprofits partners facing extreme hardship and dire needs, with the requirement that recipients pay it forward with two acts of kindness to others * summer youth fund: provided grants to the ymca of metropolitan la and the city of l.a.'s summer night lights so that 4,000 low-income and at-risk youth and their families could enjoy summer camp, organized sports and other recreational, fitness and educational activities
