“The organization has been designated as tax-exempt under internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and is also exempt from state franchise taxes under section 23701(d) of the california revenue and taxation code and is not generally subject to federal or state income taxes. However, the organization is subject to income taxes on any net income that is derived from a trade or business, regularly carried on, and not in furtherance of the purposes for which it was granted exemption. No income tax provision has been recorded as, in the opinion of management, the net income, if any, from any unrelated trade or business is not material to the basic financial statements taken as a whole. The organization provides for tax contingencies, if any, for federal, state and local exposures relating to audit results, tax planning initiatives and compliance responsibilities. The development of these reserves requires judgments about tax issues, potential outcomes and timing. Although the outcome of these tax audits is uncertain, in management's opinion adequate provisions for income taxes have been made for potential liabilities emanating from these reviews. If actual outcomes differ materially from these estimates, they could have a material impact on the organization's results. In addition, the organization recognizes potential accrued interest and penalties related to uncertain tax positions in income tax expense. The organization does not believe it has any uncertain income tax positions that could materially affect its financial statements and has therefore determined that a liability for unrecognized tax benefits is not necessary as of december 31, 2016 or 2015.
