Activity 2

Child Welfare - Keeping Families Together (KFT) and New Beginnings are designed to preserve family unity and promote healthy drug-free births. KFT is a program through which San Francisco's Child Protective Services (CPS) and HPP work with families to keep them unified and prevent children from entering into the CPS system because of substance abuse issues in the family. The Peer Mentor Program is a part of Keeping Families Together; an HPP staff member (who has previously had involvement with CPS) works closely with the client as she or he satisfies the requirements of the court for family reunification. The Peer Mentors lead a weekly support group, accompany clients to court and medical appointments, and phone clients to remind them about appointments and other obligations. New Beginnings is an intensive outreach project targeting substance-abusing pregnant women helping them get clean and sober, obtain prenatal care and deliver a healthy baby (normal weight and drug free).

Activity 3

Substance Abuse Services and Dependency Drug Court - The San Francisco Dependency Drug Court (DDC) is a court-supervised treatment and parenting program for people with children involved in the dependency system. A collaborative justice program, the DDC is a partnership between Human Services Agency, the Department of Public Health, the City Attorney's Office, the panel of dependency attorneys, the Homeless Prenatal Program, and the Superior Court. The program received initial funding from the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs.HPP is also part of a city-wide Substance Abuse Services collaborative, serving as a link between the streets and drug treatment programs for pregnant and parenting mothers with substance abuse problems.
