IRS990/Desc0Water:--------In 2016, we continued our work on the California drought, including conducting in-depth analysis of the impacts on electricity generation and local communities, the first comparative analysis of the costs of alternative water supply and efficiency options to help communities prioritize water investments, and a study highlighting lessons learned from the decade-long drought in Australia. Our collaboration with environmental justice partners gave rise to a summit and report that called for policy changes to address drought-related inequities. In addition to our California drought work, we produced and widely disseminated a comprehensive guidebook to equip community members with the knowledge and tools to understand urban water demand forecasts and to engage effectively in the water infrastructure decision-making process. We collaborated with state agencies and gos to provide input into the development of th state water board's assessment of access to safe, affordable, adequate water in California. Finally, we worked with ngos, water utilities, and other stakeholders to advance state policy on water conservation and efficiency as well as broader sustainable water solutions, such as green infrastructure, to address long-term water reliability and climate change concerns.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Corporate Sustainability:--------------------------Under a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN Global Compact, the Pacific Institute continues to administer the corporate water stewardship initiative called the CEO Water Mandate. In 2016, the Mandate convened several meetings looking to advance business action on corporate water stewardship. This included a series of meetings focused on corporate water stewardship in CAlifornia, including the inaugural California Water Stewardship Leaders' Summit in November. The Institute and Mandate also launched the new WASH4WORK Initiative in collaboration with a number of United Nation organizations and NGOs which focuses on mobilizing business action on water access, sanitation, and hygiene. It also published a white paper titled "Scaling Corporate Action on WASH in Supply CHains." In addition to work supporting the CEO Water Mandate, the Corporate Sustainability program also completed and published the 2nd Flagship report for the UN Forum on Sustainability Standards titled, "Meeting Sustainability Goals: Voluntary Sustainability Standards and the Role of Government."
