A committee of the board of directors reviews all potential conflicts of interest at least annually. All personnel and board members are required to disclose potential conflicts and any related party affiliations. Loan between the organization and members of management and the board are strictly prohibited. The organization seeks full transparency on all relationships. Any potential conflicts (in fact or appearance) are discussed openly and resolved in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

THE PACIFIC INSTITUTE WAS ALSO NAMED A HIGH-IMPACT NONPROFIT BY PHILANTHROPEDIA. THE INSTITUTE RELEASED TWENTY NEW PUBLICATIONS FOCUSING ON CRITICAL WATER ISSUES INCLUDING DESALINATION, WATER RATES, THE COLORADO RIVER BASIN, AND THE WATER-ENERGY NEXUS. THERE REPORTS WERE DOWNLOADED MORE THAN 130,000 TIMES IN 2013 ALONE. IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH SACRAMENTO COUNTY, THE WATER PROGRAM RELEASED AN UPDATED RIVER-FRIENDLY LANDSCAPE BENEFITS CALCULATOR, HELPING RESIDENTS CHOOSE "RIVER-FRIENDLY" PLANTS. THE INTERNATIONAL WATER INITIATIVE ALSO HELPED PIONEER THE WASH SMS PROJECT WHICH HELPS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO INFORMATION ON WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE.
