Mission: we champion success for coastside public school students. Cef serves as a student success innovation fund to launch new, creative and powerful initiatives to improve students' education. Its endowment provides the sustainability until these initiatives are woven into the fabric of our community. Cef is an advocate for and funds high leverage programs that have well defined outcomes and can make "big impacts" for student success. In collaboration with coastside school districts, cef identifies clear goals, strategies, and resources required for each initiative to achieve results. There are several major themes for cef basic grant making at this time: - literacy (k-3) - college and career readiness (avid 6th - 12th grades, computer science and science) - critical thinking skills (innovation grants) grants in these areas fund and promote teacher professional development and informational libraries that increase our students' reading proficiency by the end of third grade. Cef has also been able to expand the outcome based college and career readiness program (avid) from 6th through 12th grade. Cef leverages the power of its annual endowment distribution to add new programs such as its innovation grants to both cusd faculty and students. These grants seek to identify and support teacher and student innovations that can be gamechangers and potentially taken to scale.”
“Cef achievements 2022 the cabrillo education foundation (cef) funded program services for 3,200 cabrillo unified school district students covering three vital education pillars: literacy, science, and college & career readiness. In addition to supporting critical school programs, cef also provided yearly teacher innovation grants and coastside futures student scholarships. Literacy & art: building upon the big lift initiative, cef funded the los listos preschool and big lift inspiring summers program. In addition to these programs, cef funded a portion of the cunha dean for ell and seed funding for visual and performing arts (vapa). Science programs: approximately 2000 students benefited from dedicated faculty-directed collaboration time to assist district science teachers from 5th grade to 12th grade in becoming models and experts in next generation science standards. Cef partnered with the school district to provide 105,000 for a 5th grade science specialist position. With the support of cef, the 5th grade science teacher continued to teach 5th grade science to approximately 250 students from four elementary schools. College & career readiness: in 2022, cef funded a portion of the nationally recognized avid program for 6th and 12th grade students to develop the organizational skills to be college and career ready. Cef also funded the real life learning (rll) program at half moon bay hs, which gives students opportunities to explore career pathways through community service and work-based learning. Cef partnered with rll and cte at the high school to deliver a year-long career exploration initiative with 7 career panels and a job fair. Innovation grants: cef funded 10 innovation grants (1000 each) to teachers within the cusd schools. These grants allow teachers to think outside of their standard curriculum. For example, funding provides engaging materials for the 5th grade science curriculum, educational games & supplies to help develop basic stem skills, and a digital art & design's class t-shirt logo contest resulting in over 50 3-color screen printed shirts. Coastside futures/scholarships: in 2022, cef continued its collaboration with the cabrillo unified and the la honda / pescadero school districts in the coastside futures effort. In 2022, college scholarships were granted to 18 total students: 14 at half moon bay high school, 2 at pilarcitos, and 2 at la honda pescadero for a total of 40,000.”
“The cabrillo education foundation endowment fund is designed to provide a long term, stable source of unrestricted income to the schools within the cabrillo unified school district. Every donation is a lasting gift that will benefit our students and community for generations.”
